Dial and Hands
The clean silver dial features a highly legible, vertically brushed finish that catches the light beautifully. Applied indices with black inserts remain in excellent condition, complemented by crisp and intact printing throughout the dial. The original stick hands feature matching black inserts and display light oxidation visible under macro inspection. Lume plots at the outer edge of the indices show natural aging and some degradation, while the luminous material on the hands is intact but similarly aged, creating a cohesive, matching patina across the display.
Case and Crystal
The 35 mm stainless steel tonneau case retains its well-preserved original geometry, showcasing a distinct brushed top and polished flanks. The integrated brushed bezel area surrounding the crystal features sharp edges with only light surface wear. The case exhibits light surface scratches and handling marks consistent with careful wear over the decades, with no major dents, dings, or deep scratches visible. The signed Omega crown is in good condition with defined knurling. A domed acrylic crystal protects the dial; it remains clear with no major scratches, cracks, or crazing, though minor, non-distracting micro-abrasions are possible.
Movement
Inside the watch beats the Omega automatic Caliber 1481, a movement co-developed with Tissot that features a push-crown quick-set date function. The copper-colored plating is bright and clean, with the rotor and bridges presenting in excellent visual condition. There is no visible corrosion, moisture damage, or damaged screw heads. Factory engravings, including the caliber number, serial number, and Omega branding, are clearly present. The timegrapher records +2s+5s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed stainless steel folded link bracelet, secured by an Omega signed clasp. The bracelet shows moderate surface scratches and signs of normal use, maintaining a wonderfully period correct and signed character. It accommodates a maximum wrist fit of 18.5 cm.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. The watch presents a well-preserved original case geometry with only light surface scratches and handling marks. The dial remains clean with crisp printing, while the hands and outer lume plots display natural aging and degradation. The original bracelet shows moderate signs of normal use. Supported by the recorded timegrapher data, the movement is performing remarkably well.
Dimensions
The case measures 35 mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Genève offers a compelling package through its well-preserved appearance, retaining sharp transitions between brushed and polished surfaces. The combination of its clean vertically brushed dial, original signed bracelet, and very strong movement performance makes it a highly appealing example of 1970s Omega design.
History
The Omega Genève line was positioned as an accessible, high-quality entry into the brand's mechanical offerings, characterized by robust movements and classic styling. The reference 166.099 was produced during a brief window spanning 1971 and 1972, defined by its 35 mm tonneau-shaped case and integrated styling. It is powered by the Caliber 1481, an automatic movement co-developed with Tissot that introduced a practical push-crown quick-set date mechanism, reflecting the era's push toward modern convenience in mechanical watchmaking.
