Dial and Hands
The dial exhibits a beautiful brown gradient finish that creates a striking tiger-eye effect under varying light. Applied silver-tone indices and applied Seiko and LM logos provide excellent depth against the colored background. The printed text remains crisp and highly legible, while the dial surface itself is remarkably clean, showing no visible damage or staining. The silver-tone baton hands feature white central stripes and maintain a clean finish with only minimal signs of oxidation, leaving the handset exceptionally well preserved.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case retains well-defined geometry, featuring brushed top surfaces that transition into polished flanks. Honest wear is present, including scratches and minor dings on the flanks and lugs. A smooth polished bezel frames the dial, displaying surface scratches consistent with the overall case wear. The fluted, partially recessed crown is positioned at three o'clock. Above the dial sits a distinctive original faceted mineral crystal, which adds tremendous character to the watch face, though it bears scattered scratches visible under direct light.
Movement
Powering this timepiece is the automatic caliber 5216A, engraved with Japan, Seiko, and its 23-jewel count. The movement displays clean plates and bridges, with no visible corrosion or oxidation. The rotor is similarly clean, showing only minor surface marks. The timegrapher records a rate of -21-24s/day. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. The movement was serviced on 29 June 2026.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed multi-link stainless steel bracelet, bearing endlinks stamped 050. This matching original bracelet shows surface scratches on the links and the clasp, which is proudly signed Seiko LM. This bracelet will accommodate a maximum wrist size of 18.5cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The movement was serviced on 29 June 2026 and, supported by the recorded timegrapher result, is running strong and steady. The brown gradient dial is exceptionally well preserved with no visible damage. The stainless steel case and polished bezel display honest wear, with scratches and minor dings on the flanks and lugs. The distinctive faceted mineral crystal shows scattered scratches under direct light. The original signed stainless steel bracelet exhibits surface scratches consistent with the wear on the case.
Dimensions
The case measures 36mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Lord Matic Special is a highly attractive vintage Seiko that pairs an impressive mechanical pedigree with a highly expressive 1970s aesthetic. The combination of the brown gradient dial, the faceted crystal, and the original signed bracelet makes this a superb addition to any discerning collection.
History
The Lord Matic line was a significant pillar of Seiko production in the 1970s, offering sophisticated design and reliable mechanical performance. The Special designation indicated an upgraded movement with a higher beat rate and better factory adjustment than standard Lord Matic models. The 5200 series movements within these watches were designed by Daini Seikosha and are widely regarded by collectors as some of the finest automatic movements produced by Seiko before the quartz revolution.
