Dial and Hands
The pristine silver sunburst dial is exceptionally clean, showing no visible spotting or moisture damage. It features applied faceted indices and crisp printing, complemented by a practical dual-language English and Kanji day wheel alongside the date display. The sharp dauphine-style hands are detailed with black center stripes and present clean surfaces with no visible oxidation or corrosion.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case exhibits honest wear, displaying light surface scratches on the polished flanks and lugs while the edges remain relatively defined. A smooth polished bezel frames the dial, showing light hairline scratches consistent with the case wear. The reverse side features the signature intact gold KS medallion, a highly prized detail for vintage enthusiasts. The watch is equipped with a knurled crown that bears a clear KS signature with good definition. A flat crystal protects the dial and remains clear, with no significant visible scratches or chips.
Movement
Powering the watch is the automatic caliber 5626, known as a higher beat, more finely adjusted version of Seiko's 5606 movement. This caliber features an external regulator that can be accessed through a small screw located between the lower lugs. Timegrapher: +20+25s/day. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady.
Strap
The watch is paired with a black leather strap featuring white contrast stitching. The strap shows light signs of use and complements the vintage character of the timepiece.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. The dial and hands are remarkably well-preserved, remaining free of visible aging or moisture marks. The stainless steel case shows honest, age-related surface scratches but retains its structural definition and the crucial gold caseback medallion.
Dimensions
The case measures 37 mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This King Seiko is a highly attractive proposition for collectors, defined by its remarkably clean silver sunburst dial and the dual-language Kanji day wheel. The presence of the intact 18k gold KS medallion on the caseback further elevates this specific example, making it a wonderful addition to any vintage Japanese watch collection.
History
Introduced in 1968 for the Japanese market, the reference 5626-7000 is a celebrated member of the 56KS family. Its distinctive one-piece monobloc front-loading case was closely based on the architecture of the manual-winding 45 King Seiko. The 56KS series remains highly regarded among collectors for its refined design and capable mechanics, with examples retaining a well-preserved gold medallion becoming increasingly desirable.
