A well-preserved 41-jewel Green Horse is a sought-after configuration among vintage Rado collectors. Case Size: 35 mm (excluding the crown)
Case Material: Gold-tone, stainless steel caseback
Production Year: 1960s

Dial and Hands
The watch features a striking and highly legible silver sunburst dial with excellent preservation of its original finish, remaining very clean with minimal signs of age or spotting. It is accented by applied gold-tone faceted indices and the signature applied seahorse logo. The date is displayed in vibrant red numerals, adding a brilliant touch of color to the composition. The original gold-tone dauphine hands retain their lume strips and show moderate, age-appropriate oxidation and light aging visible on the metal surfaces.
Case and Crystal
The 35mm case is presented in gold-tone plating with an integrated smooth gold-tone bezel that shows light scratches and minor wear. The case exhibits honest wear consistent with age, showing scratches, tarnish, and notable plating degradation on the non-crown flank. The lugs retain their general shape while displaying handling wear. A domed crown showing surface wear operates at the three o'clock position. The stainless steel caseback remains crisp, featuring clear seahorse and patent engravings. A domed acrylic crystal, equipped with a date magnifier, protects the dial and shows light surface scratches visible under direct light.
Movement
Inside beats the automatic Caliber 1789, a 41-jewel movement clearly stamped beneath the balance wheel. The clean mechanism features a gold-tone rotor decorated with the Rado anchor logo, showing light superficial scratches on the surface. Engravings reading Rado, 41 Jewels, and Swiss are present on the movement architecture. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The timegrapher records a rate of -2s-6s/day.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring contrast orange and gold stitching that beautifully complements the dial accents. The strap appears lightly used or new, offering a comfortable and stylish fit on the wrist.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The striking dial is excellently preserved, while the hands display expected oxidation. The gold-tone case shows visible signs of use, including scratches, tarnish, and plating wear that is most notable on the non-crown flank. The acrylic crystal bears light surface scratches. The movement is clean and, supported by the recorded timegrapher result, is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 35 mm in diameter, and this measurement strictly excludes the crown.
Remarks
This Rado Green Horse offers a compelling mix of mid-century aesthetics and impressive mechanical specification. The combination of the 41-jewel automatic movement, the excellently preserved sunburst dial, and the vibrant red date display makes this a highly appealing example for collectors of vintage Swiss timepieces.
History
The Green Horse collection was introduced in the late 1950s and played a key role in establishing Rado as a global brand. Interestingly, the first Rado Green Horse model was originally produced as the Exacto Oceanmaster before Rado absorbed the most successful models from its sister brand. A defining characteristic of this era is the signature rotating anchor logo on the dial, which was cleverly designed to move with the watch's orientation, mimicking the rotation of the automatic winding rotor inside.
