Dial and Hands
The matte black dial is exceptionally clean with no visible damage, providing a stark background for the crisp white printed text. A standout feature of this display is the even, creamy vintage patina that has developed across the luminous indices. The subdials feature well-defined concentric circular graining, adding subtle texture to the layout. The white painted hands retain luminous fill that matches the dial indices beautifully. Under macro inspection, the original hands show minor age-related surface dirt and aging on the white paint, presenting honest character consistent with the era of the watch.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case displays honest wear with preserved geometry. Light scratches and handling marks consistent with normal wear are present throughout, while the classic twisted lugs retain good definition. The brushed and polished surface transitions remain clearly visible. The black tachymetre bezel insert is clean and fully legible, surrounded by an outer steel bezel edge that shows light wear and minor marks. The fluted crown is signed with the Omega logo and exhibits light wear. The watch is fitted with a domed acrylic crystal, which shows light surface scratches visible in reflections, typical for acrylic materials.
Movement
Powering this chronograph is the Omega Caliber 1140, a 45-jewel automatic movement. The movement displays a clean gilt finish with no visible corrosion, oxidation, or damage. The rotor and bridges are well preserved, bearing crisp engravings including OMEGA 1140, 45 JEWELS, FORTY-FIVE, SWISS, and 2890-2. The timegrapher records a rate of -6-9s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed bracelet, complete with 811 endlinks. The bracelet shows honest wear, including light scratches and normal stretch from use over the decades. It secures via an Omega signed clasp featuring Speedmaster text. The bracelet accommodates a maximum wrist size of 19 cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The stainless steel case retains its distinct twisted lug geometry, showing light scratches and handling marks consistent with normal use. The dial is exceptionally clean and features a highly attractive creamy patina on the luminous markers. The original hands display minor surface aging under close inspection. The acrylic crystal bears typical light surface scratches, and the outer bezel edge shows minor marks. The original bracelet exhibits expected stretch and light wear.
Dimensions
The case measures 39 mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Speedmaster Automatic stands out through its exceptionally clean dial and the warm, even patina across its luminous indices. Complete with its original signed bracelet and retaining strong case geometry, it is an attractive and honest example of a classic 1990s Omega chronograph.
History
Introduced as a more compact, automatic alternative to the traditional Moonwatch, the Speedmaster Reduced brought the famous asymmetrical case design and tachymetre bezel to a highly wearable 39 mm profile. Produced through the 1990s, these models utilized the Caliber 1140, which paired a robust ETA 2890-2 base movement with a Dubois-Dépraz chronograph module. This configuration allowed Omega to offer the Speedmaster aesthetic with the everyday convenience of automatic winding, making it a highly successful and enduring part of the modern catalogue.
