Dial and Hands
The silver-colored dial is exceptionally clean and well-preserved, featuring a beautiful vertical brushed finish that catches the light dynamically. Applied indices with black inserts provide excellent contrast, perfectly matched by the applied Omega logo positioned below twelve o'clock. A sharply framed date window sits at the three o'clock position, complemented by crisp printing throughout the dial surface. The stick hands also feature black inserts and remain wonderfully clean, showing minimal oxidation and matching the excellent preservation of the dial.
Case and Crystal
The square, cushion-shaped case features a gold electroplated upper section paired with a stainless steel back. Showing honest wear consistent with age, the case displays light scratches and minor plating wear visible along the edges and lugs. The bezel is elegantly integrated into the midcase design and exhibits minor plating wear on its sharp edges. The visible crown is signed with the Omega logo and shows some tarnish and wear to the plating. A flat acrylic crystal protects the dial and remains clear, bearing only minor surface scratches.
Movement
Inside the case beats the Omega Caliber 1000, a 17-jewel automatic movement. The copper-colored plating presents a clean appearance with no obvious signs of corrosion or damage. Engravings on the movement clearly read OMEGA WATCH Co SWISS, SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS, 1000, UNADJUSTED, and the serial number 31993764. The timegrapher records +3s+6s/day with strong amplitude. History
The turn of the 1970s marked a period of significant design evolution for Omega, as the brand began experimenting with bolder case shapes and refined dial textures. Square and cushion cases became highly fashionable, offering a sophisticated departure from traditional round silhouettes. During this era, Omega introduced the Caliber 1000 series, a new generation of high-beat automatic movements designed to be slimmer than their predecessors while maintaining precision. This specific timepiece is a wonderful representation of that transitional period, combining reliable mechanical engineering with the distinct aesthetic sensibilities of the decade.
