Dial and Hands
The exceptionally clean silver sunburst dial is a standout feature of this watch, presenting beautifully with crisp printing throughout. Applied indices feature black inserts that coordinate perfectly with the handset. Intact tritium luminous plots have aged to a warm, even patina. The original stick hands display matching luminous material alongside expected age-related oxidation on their metal surfaces.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel tonneau or C-shape case retains its original finishing styles, featuring brushed upper surfaces contrasting with polished flanks. The case displays honest vintage wear, with light to moderate surface scratches consistent with age and use, while the edges remain relatively well-defined. A polished smooth bezel frames the dial, showing light surface scratches matching the case wear. The watch is fitted with an Omega-signed crown exhibiting light wear on its knurling. A domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, remaining clear with only light surface scratches visible under certain lighting angles.
Movement
Inside the case beats the Omega Caliber 565 automatic movement, featuring twenty-four jewels and a quickset date function. The signature copper-plated finish remains bright and intact, with the rotor and bridges appearing very clean and showing no obvious signs of corrosion or heavy tool marks. Engravings including the serial number and caliber designation are crisp and clear. The timegrapher recorded a result of +18s. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is paired with a handsome brown leather strap featuring white contrast stitching. The strap appears lightly used and complements the silver dial beautifully.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The dial is exceptionally clean with beautifully aged, matching tritium luminous material. The case shows honest, age-related surface scratches but retains its fundamental brushed and polished finishes. The hands display visible oxidation. The acrylic crystal and polished bezel exhibit light surface wear. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result of +18s, the movement is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 34 mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Genève offers an excellent opportunity to acquire a highly original 1970s Omega with a superb dial. The combination of the classic case proportions, the warm tritium patina, and the highly regarded Caliber 565 movement makes it an immensely enjoyable daily wearer.
History
The Omega Genève line was introduced in the 1950s as a tribute to the brand's highest-tier watchmaking origins in Geneva, Switzerland. By the late 1960s and 1970s, the Genève collection had evolved to represent Omega's most versatile and accessible range of timepieces, produced in large numbers and featuring a wide array of case shapes and dial designs. Often utilizing the exact same high-quality calibers found in the Seamaster and Constellation lines, the Genève offers tremendous mechanical value. The Caliber 565 found in this example is highly regarded for its robust construction and practical push-pull quickset date mechanism.
