This is a remarkable example of the Seiko Sportsmatic Deluxe, a premium iteration of the legendary Sportsmatic line that defined affordable luxury in the 1960s. Distinguished by its "Deluxe" designation, this timepiece features the upgraded 7619 caliber which introduced a hacking seconds feature and a dedicated push-button date quickset, advancements that set it apart from the standard models. The substantial 38mm stainless steel case, often referred to as "Jumbo" for its era, carries a distinct presence on the wrist, further elevated by the intricate fluted bezel that catches the light beautifully. With its crisp silver sunburst dial and the iconic Dolphin caseback, this watch represents the pinnacle of mid-century Japanese practical design.

Dial and Hands
The silver sunburst dial is in outstanding condition, retaining a bright and uniform finish that radiates from the center. It features substantial applied baton indices with polished facets that complement the sharp Dauphine hands. The date and day aperture is framed in metal at the 3 o'clock position, displaying the day in English. The text is crisp and legible, proudly displaying the "Sportsmatic Deluxe" branding and the applied "5" shield logo. A distinct minute track runs along the outer perimeter, adding depth to the visual layout.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case measures a generous 38mm, providing a modern wearing experience despite its vintage origins. The case architecture is well-preserved, featuring the signature hidden crown at the 4 o'clock position which maintains the symmetrical silhouette. A dedicated pusher for the date quickset is located at the 2 o'clock position. The defining feature is the fluted bezel, which remains sharp and distinct. The screw-down caseback prominently features the embossed Dolphin motif, a highly collectible detail indicating the watch's water-resistant heritage, along with the clearly visible reference and serial numbers. The crystal is clear and free from distracting marks.
Movement
Powering this timepiece is the highly regarded Seiko Caliber 7619 automatic movement. This 25-jewel movement was a significant technical step up for the era, featuring Diashock protection and a hacking mechanism that allows for precise time setting. It also includes a quickset date function operated by the external pusher. The watch is running within vintage tolerances, with timegrapher results showing between -7s and -15s/day, which indicates healthy movement performance.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a new black leather strap featuring contrasting white stitching and a stainless steel buckle, offering a sporty yet elegant look that complements the dial perfectly.
Condition
This example is in excellent vintage condition. The case edges remain defined, and the surfaces show only light handling marks commensurate with its age. The dial is exceptionally clean, free from the spotting or heavy patina often seen on models from this period. The dolphin engraving on the caseback is visible and legible.
Dimensions
The case diameter is 38mm excluding the crown, making it a desirable size for contemporary tastes.
Remarks
The Sportsmatic Deluxe reference 7619-7010 is widely considered one of the best value propositions in the vintage Seiko market due to its combination of size, movement quality, and aesthetic detail. Finding one with such a clean dial and a sharp fluted bezel is becoming increasingly difficult for collectors.
History
Launched in the early 1960s, the Sportsmatic line was designed to be a robust and practical automatic watch for the modern man. The "Deluxe" series arrived later as a high-specification tier, incorporating the advanced 7619 movement. This specific model dates to August 1965, a golden era for Seiko manufacturing where they began to seriously challenge Swiss dominance in mechanical watchmaking through innovation and superior build quality.
