Dial and Hands
The dial is a captivating deep blue with a vertical brushed texture that shifts beautifully under different lighting conditions. It features crisp white printed text and an applied Seiko logo, along with the distinct applied "LM" and "Special" script at the six o'clock position. The faceted, applied baton hour markers are polished and catch the light effortlessly, complementing the sharp, polished baton hands. A framed day-date aperture sits at three o'clock, displaying a bilingual day wheel with the Sunday marker in red. The dial is exceptionally clean, showing no visible spots, staining, or moisture damage, presenting a remarkably fresh appearance.
Case and Crystal
The 37mm stainless steel case features a distinct cushion-like, helmet-style silhouette with hooded lugs, typical of Seiko's bold 1970s design language. The case retains strong factory lines, with a clear transition between the brushed upper surfaces and polished flanks. Honest, light handling marks and superficial scratches consistent with careful wear are visible on the polished sides and bezel, but no deep gouges or signs of heavy over-polishing are present. The flat crystal is clear and free from significant scratches or chips, allowing an unobstructed view of the textured dial. The screw-down caseback is well-preserved, with all factory engravings, including the serial number and reference, remaining crisp and legible.
Movement
Powering this timepiece is the Seiko Caliber 5206 automatic movement. This high-beat caliber is known for its refinement and was a step up from the standard 56-series movements found in regular Lord Matics, featuring a day-date complication with a quickset function. The movement is housed securely behind the solid stainless steel caseback.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a dark blue leather strap with an alligator grain pattern and matching blue stitching. The strap is in excellent, lightly worn condition and secures with a standard stainless steel pin buckle, complementing the dial color perfectly.
Condition
This Seiko Lord Matic Special is in excellent vintage condition. The dial is the standout feature, remaining clean and vibrant with no notable flaws. The case shows normal, honest signs of wear with light surface scratches but retains its original geometry and finishing contrasts. The hands and applied indices are bright and free of oxidation. Overall, it is a highly attractive and well-preserved example.

Remarks
The combination of the dynamic case shape and the mesmerizing textured blue dial makes this LM Special a compelling piece for collectors of vintage Japanese watches. The 52-series movement adds an extra layer of horological interest, representing a high point in Seiko's automatic caliber development of the era.
History
Introduced in the late 1960s, the Lord Matic line was positioned just below the King Seiko and Grand Seiko tiers, offering sophisticated designs and reliable automatic movements to the domestic market. The "Special" designation was introduced later, bringing higher-beat movements (often 28,800 bph) and more elaborate dial and case designs to the LM family. These models, particularly those with the 52-series calibers, are highly regarded by collectors for their technical merit and expressive 1970s styling, serving as a bridge between Seiko's mid-tier and luxury offerings.
