The King Seiko Hi-Beat is a testament to the internal rivalry that drove Seiko to perfection during its golden era, offering a movement and finish quality that rivaled the Swiss giants of the time. This specific Reference 5625-7113 combines the desirable high-beat movement with a classic gold-plated case design, making it a sophisticated choice for the collector who appreciates both horological history and vintage elegance.

Dial and Hands
The watch features a pristine silver sunburst dial that catches the light beautifully. It is adorned with faceted gold baton hour markers that feature black central inlays for superior legibility. The matching gold hands also feature black striping, maintaining a sharp and consistent aesthetic. The applied "SEIKO" and "KS" logos are crisp and raised, adding depth to the face. A gold-framed date window is positioned at 3 o'clock. The text "Hi-BEAT" and the Suwa Seikosha logo are clearly printed at the 6 o'clock position.
Case and Crystal
The case is finished in gold plating (SGP) and retains the classic grammar of design lines associated with King Seiko. The case shows visible wear and brassing on the lug tips and sharp edges, revealing the base metal underneath, which adds a layer of honest vintage character to the piece. The original "KS" signed crown is present and correct. The screw-down caseback is stainless steel and features clear, deep engravings of the serial number and reference data, along with the "SGP BACK ST. STEEL" designation. The crystal is clear and presents well.
Movement
Powering this timepiece is the renowned Seiko Caliber 5625B automatic movement. This is a 25-jewel Hi-Beat movement operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, designed to offer higher precision and a smoother sweep of the seconds hand. The rotor is clearly signed with the caliber specifications. Based on timegrapher results, the movement is currently running between +23 and +25 seconds per day. Which indicates healthy movement performance within acceptable vintage tolerances.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a brown leather strap featuring a crocodile grain pattern and contrast stitching. It is paired with a gold-tone buckle that complements the case finish, enhancing the dress watch aesthetic suitable for formal or casual wear.
Condition
This timepiece is in good vintage condition. While the case exhibits visible plating wear and surface marks consistent with its age and use, the dial and hands are preserved in excellent condition, appearing fresh and sharp. The movement is clean and functioning correctly. Ideally suited for a collector who values original dial condition and mechanical integrity.
Dimensions
The case measures 36 mm in diameter excluding the crown, offering a classic and balanced presence on the wrist that defines the vintage dress watch category.
Remarks
The King Seiko 56 series is widely regarded as one of the most reliable and capable vintage Seiko movements. Produced by the Suwa Seikosha factory, this model represents the accessible luxury that challenged Swiss chronometers during the 1970s. The combination of the Hi-Beat movement and the classic gold aesthetic makes this a compelling piece of horological history.
History
King Seiko was established as a luxury sub-brand to compete internally with Grand Seiko, driving innovation and quality across the company. The "56KS" line was produced at the Suwa factory and played a pivotal role in the quartz crisis era by offering automated manufacturing precision that maintained hand-finished standards. These watches are celebrated today for their robust engineering and timeless design language.
