Dial and Hands
The dial is a visual triumph, featuring a mesmerizing two-tone green vertical striped pattern that provides immense depth and character. It is adorned with tall, applied, faceted silver-tone hour indices that feature central black inserts, perfectly matched by the baton-style hands. Rado’s signature rotating anchor logo sits prominently beneath the twelve o'clock position against a vibrant pinkish-red background, complemented by the applied "RADO" text. The printed "SCHEIDEGG" and "SWISS MADE" typography remains incredibly crisp. A framed date window at three o'clock displays the date in striking red numerals. Under careful inspection, the dial is in outstanding condition, completely free of visible moisture damage, spotting, or discoloration, retaining its original vivid saturation and clean factory finish.
Case and Crystal
The 34mm stainless steel cushion case exemplifies the robust, geometric styling of its decade. The upper surface of the case features a pronounced horizontal brushed finish that contrasts sharply with the high-polish case flanks, separated by distinct, well-defined factory edges. The watch is fitted with a spectacular faceted crystal, sloping dramatically toward the edges, which creates a mesmerizing optical effect over the striped dial beneath it. The original signed crown, bearing the Rado anchor logo, is present. The screw-down caseback is deeply engraved with the iconic Rado seahorse emblem, "Water-Sealed" text, and the serial numbers. The case remains in excellent vintage condition, exhibiting honest, superficial handling marks and light surface scratches consistent with normal wear, but retaining strong, unpolished structural integrity and sharp transitions.
Movement
Inside beats the highly reliable ETA Caliber 2824 automatic movement, clearly stamped beneath the balance wheel. The movement features a beautifully engine-turned texture across the rotor, which is proudly signed "RADO 25 JEWELS". The plates and components present cleanly, reflecting proper preservation. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. Timegrapher results indicate a performance of +14s to +17s/day.
Strap
The watch is paired with a period-correct black leather strap featuring a crocodile-grain texture. The strap shows some light signs of wear consistent with age, adding to its vintage character while remaining perfectly functional and presentable on the wrist.
Condition
This Rado Scheidegg is presented in excellent vintage condition. The dial is the undisputed highlight, remaining exceptionally clean and free of the degradation often found in watches of this age. The case retains its sharp factory lines and contrasting finishes, showing only age-appropriate, honest wear. The mechanical health is outstanding, making this a highly wearable and collectible piece.

History
During the mid-to-late 20th century, Rado established itself as an avant-garde force in the Swiss watch industry, heavily prioritizing unconventional materials, daring shapes, and highly stylized dials. While they are most famous for their scratch-resistant tungsten carbide DiaStar models, their broader catalog from the 1970s was filled with wildly creative designs like the Scheidegg. These models pushed the boundaries of traditional watch aesthetics, utilizing faceted crystals, vibrant colors, and unique case silhouettes to stand out in a rapidly changing market. Today, these pieces are celebrated by collectors who appreciate the bold, uncompromising vision of 1970s Rado.
