Dial and Hands
The dial of this Rado Kapell is a primary focal point, originally presenting as a brown gradient or vignette surface that has since developed a dense, even stardust patina across its entirety. This heavy speckling is a clear sign of environmental aging but presents as a visually cohesive and highly attractive texture rather than localized damage. The dial furniture includes applied silver-tone faceted indices with small luminous plots, alongside the signature free-spinning Rado anchor logo positioned at twelve o'clock above the printed sans-serif brand name. The cursive Kapell script graces the lower hemisphere, remaining crisp and fully legible. A framed date aperture at three o'clock displays striking red numerals, adding a welcome pop of color. The silver-tone baton hands feature luminous inserts that have aged to a warm, even tone, complementing the dial's overall vintage aesthetic.
Case and Crystal
The 38 mm stainless steel cushion case exhibits the classic, substantial proportions of its era. The top surface retains visible radial brushing, which transitions cleanly to polished case flanks. The case shows honest signs of vintage wear, including scattered superficial scratches, minor handling marks, and small nicks along the edges, all of which are entirely consistent with its age and regular use. The original Rado-signed crown is partially recessed into the right flank, maintaining the case's streamlined silhouette. The domed acrylic crystal presents clearly, offering a warm distortion at the edges, with only minor surface wear visible under close inspection. The crystal is of a classic boxed dome form, enhancing the vintage profile and visual depth of the dial. The screw-down stainless steel caseback is sharply engraved with the iconic Rado seahorse emblem, the Water Sealed designation, and the 6064162A stamping.
Movement
Powering this timepiece is a robust ETA caliber 2824 automatic movement, proudly signed by Rado on the decorated rotor and featuring 25 jewels. The movement presents cleanly in the macro photography, with bright plates and well-preserved components. Running in vintage operational condition. Maintains the authentic mechanical character of the era. Timegrapher results indicate a performance of -50 to -57 seconds per day.
Strap
The watch is currently fitted with a period-correct black leather strap featuring an alligator-grain pattern and contrasting white stitching. It is secured by a standard stainless steel pin buckle and complements the bold dimensions of the cushion case.
Condition
This Rado is presented in good vintage condition. The case remains structurally sound with well-defined lines and normal, age-appropriate handling marks. The dial's significant stardust patina adds immense character and is evenly distributed, while the hands, applied indices, and original signed crown remain in excellent visual condition.

History
Rado has long been celebrated for its innovative approach to case shapes, unconventional materials, and distinctive dial configurations. During the 1970s, the brand produced a wide array of highly stylized timepieces like the Kapell, which embraced the era's preference for large, geometric cases and dynamic dials. Today, these pieces are highly sought after by vintage enthusiasts for their unique aesthetic and the dependable Swiss calibers that beat within.
