Dial and Hands
The dial presents a rich, matte-to-sunburst deep blue surface that serves as a striking backdrop for the crisp white printed typography and the elegantly applied silver Omega logo at three o'clock. The layout features three recessed sub-dials at the twelve, nine, and six o'clock positions, each finished with a refined concentric guilloché snailing that adds excellent depth and texture. A framed date window sits neatly next to the brand script. Upon close visual inspection, the dial displays honest age-consistent patina, including some light, scattered spotting across the blue surface. The faceted baton indices feature luminous plots at their outer edges that have aged to a warm, creamy tone. The polished steel hands, including the main hour and minute hands as well as the sub-dial indicators, exhibit noticeable oxidation, surface speckling, and patina, which authentically reflects the vintage nature of the timepiece.
Case and Crystal
The 39mm stainless steel case showcases Omega’s celebrated asymmetrical profile, highlighted by the beautifully sculpted, twisted lyre lugs. The transitions between the brushed case flanks and the polished faceted edges remain clearly defined, exhibiting normal, honest signs of wear, including light surface scratches and handling marks consistent with regular use over the decades. The fixed stainless steel tachymeter bezel, featuring black enamel-filled numerals, shows moderate wear and edge marks but retains excellent legibility. A domed crystal protects the dial, providing a clear and distortion-free view of the chronograph display. The signed Omega crown is flanked by twin pump pushers, all operating correctly. The solid screw-down caseback is deeply and crisply engraved with the iconic Speedmaster Hippocampus emblem, alongside the clearly visible serial number on the outer lug edge.
Movement
Powering this chronograph is the Omega Caliber 1152, a robust and highly reliable automatic movement based on the proven Valjoux 7750 architecture, and recently serviced. The 25-jewel mechanism is cleanly finished, featuring perlage on the base plates and a winding rotor prominently engraved with the Omega branding and caliber designation. The chronograph functions engage with a satisfying mechanical crispness. Exhibiting strong accuracy and consistency, it performs excellently for a vintage timepiece, with timegrapher results showing approximately minus 5 to 10 seconds per day and healthy amplitude.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original period-correct stainless steel Omega Speedmaster bracelet, featuring a sophisticated five-link design with brushed outer links and polished intermediate links. The bracelet integrates seamlessly into the case with solid endlinks clearly stamped with the reference code 813. It secures to the wrist via a sturdy single-fold clasp, distinctly signed with the Omega logo and Speedmaster script. The bracelet shows moderate stretch and typical surface wear consistent with its age, accommodating a wrist size of up to 18 cm comfortably.
Condition
This timepiece is presented in good vintage condition. The case and bracelet display an honest, unpolished appearance with age-appropriate scratches and scuffs that speak to a life of genuine wear. The dial is highly attractive but shows clear signs of aging, most notably the oxidation and speckling present on the handset and light spotting on the dial surface. The movement has been serviced and is running strongly, making this a brilliant vintage wearer that balances historical character with robust daily performance.

Remarks
This Speedmaster Automatic is a superb example of Omega's ability to adapt its most famous design language into a more compact, self-winding format. The blue dial variant is particularly desirable, offering a distinct visual departure from the traditional monochromatic Moonwatch while retaining all the essential DNA of the Speedmaster family. With its reliable automatic caliber and practical date feature, it is an ideal choice for the collector who appreciates vintage aesthetics coupled with modern functionality.
History
While the manual-wind Speedmaster Professional earned its fame in space, Omega recognized the need for a more accessible, everyday version of their flagship chronograph for terrestrial wearers. Introduced in the late 1980s and evolving through the 1990s, the Speedmaster Automatic line brought the convenience of self-winding movements to the collection. Often utilizing robust base calibers modified to Omega's exacting standards, these models offered slightly reduced case proportions and automatic winding, making them incredibly popular. The reference 175.0043 / 375.0043 stands as a prime example of this era, blending the iconic tachymeter aesthetic with the enduring reliability of the Caliber 1152.
