Dial and Hands
The silver sunburst dial is exceptionally clean and well preserved, presenting with no visible staining or significant marks. Crisp typography reads "Seiko Crown", "Diashock 21 jewels", and "JAPAN". The applied indices provide sharp contrast and are paired with silver-tone dauphine hands. The hands remain well preserved, showing only minor dust or micro-oxidation that is visible strictly under macro photography.
Case and Crystal
The 36mm stainless steel case displays honest vintage wear, retaining a well-defined lug profile alongside light surface scratches consistent with age. The smooth integrated bezel presents matching light surface scratches. The case is fitted with an unsigned crown featuring a knurled texture. A clear domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, showing no major scratches or crazing.
Movement
Inside beats the manual-winding Seikosha Caliber 560, a 21-jewel movement. The plates and bridges are clean, showing no obvious corrosion, while minor marks are visible on the screw heads. The caliber is clearly engraved with "SEIKOSHA", "21 JEWELS", "560", and "F S". Recording -10-12s/day on the timegrapher, the movement is exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is paired with a black leather strap featuring white contrast stitching. The strap appears unworn or very lightly used.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. The exceptionally clean dial stands out as a highlight of this timepiece. The stainless steel case and bezel show light surface scratches consistent with honest age and wear. The hands display minor dust or micro-oxidation visible only under macro inspection. The manual-wind movement is clean, noting minor marks on the screw heads, and is performing remarkably well on the timegrapher.
Dimensions
The case measures 36mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Seiko Crown offers a pristine silver sunburst dial and classic 1960s dress watch proportions. Supported by strong timegrapher results from its Seikosha Caliber 560 movement, it represents a superb opportunity to acquire a well-preserved mid-century dress piece.
History
Introduced in the late 1950s, the Seiko Crown was a foundational model for the brand's dress watch portfolio. Built around reliable and accurate Seikosha manual-winding movements, the Crown line helped establish the aesthetic and mechanical standards that would eventually inform the creation of the first Grand Seiko. Today, the model is appreciated by collectors for its elegant, understated design and its important role in the evolution of Japanese horology.
