Now available at auction from Second Vintage This distinctive Rado Schilthorn is a sought-after collector favourite that reflects the bold design language of the 1970s. Highlighted by a striking horizontal wave-textured dial and an exceptionally sharp faceted case, this well-preserved timepiece offers an incredible architectural presence on the wrist, complete with its original integrated stainless steel bracelet. Brand: Rado Model: Schilthorn Movement: Automatic ETA caliber 2824 Dial: Silver/grey horizontal wave-textured with applied faceted indices Case Size: 36mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Stainless steel Production Year: 1970s Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Timegrapher: +8+10s/day, performing remarkably well. Dial and Hands The dial is dynamic and highly textured, featuring a striking horizontal wave finish executed in a beautiful silver/grey tone. Applied faceted indices and the signature Rado anchor logo provide excellent depth, while the date window at three o'clock displays distinctive red numerals. The printing is crisp and clean, with no visible spotting, staining, or degradation across the surface. The sharp, legible dauphine hands feature black central inserts and retain clean surfaces with no visible oxidation or corrosion. Case and Crystal Crisp and highly geometric, the 36mm stainless steel case showcases a distinctive faceted design with sharp, well-preserved edges. The original brushed finish appears intact on the upper surfaces, and the case exhibits only minimal signs of wear with no significant dents or deep scratches visible. The bezel area is incorporated into the main faceted body, maintaining the watch's unified architectural lines. The domed acrylic crystal is clear, presenting no significant scratches, crazing, or chips. On the right side, the crown is neatly signed with the Rado anchor logo and features well-defined fluting. Movement Inside beats the reliable 25-jewel automatic ETA caliber 2824. The movement is clean, showing no visible corrosion or significant wear, and features a textured, signed rotor alongside the ETA shield logo. On the timegrapher, the watch records a rate of +8+10s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. Strap The watch is fitted with its original signed bracelet, crafted in stainless steel to match the brushed finish of the case. Integrated and well-preserved, the links remain tight with minimal stretch visible. The folding clasp is correctly signed with the Rado logo. The bracelet will comfortably accommodate a maximum wrist size of up to 18cm. Condition Excellent vintage condition. The watch presents beautifully, defined by its crisp, unpolished-appearing geometric case and pristine wave-textured dial. The hands and acrylic crystal are remarkably clean, and the original integrated bracelet remains in highly preserved shape. Supported by the timegrapher results, the automatic movement is performing very strongly. Dimensions The case measures 36mm (excluding the crown). Remarks This Schilthorn is a superb example of 1970s watchmaking, combining a mesmerizing textured dial with a highly sculptural case design.
