Brand: Rado
Model: Silver Horse
Movement: Automatic ETA caliber 2789
Dial: Silver sunburst with applied indices and logos
Case Size: 36 mm (excluding the crown)
Case Material: Stainless Steel
Production Year: 1970s
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Timegrapher: +6+9s/day, performing remarkably well.
Dial and Hands
The silver sunburst dial is beautifully well preserved, presenting a clean finish with no significant spotting or moisture damage visible. It features applied indices with black inserts that provide excellent contrast against the bright dial surface. The signature applied Rado anchor logo and seahorse emblem add distinctive character to the layout. The baton style hands also feature black inserts and maintain a clean finish with no visible oxidation, remaining in excellent condition.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel tonneau case displays honest wear, featuring brushed top surfaces that transition into polished flanks. The case exhibits light surface scratches and minor handling marks consistent with age, while the edges remain reasonably defined. A crisp fluted steel bezel frames the dial, showing light surface wear that perfectly matches the rest of the case. The watch retains its Rado crown, signed with the anchor logo and showing good condition with defined knurling. The domed acrylic crystal is clear, showing only minor surface wear and no deep scratches or cracks.
Movement
Powering this watch is the automatic ETA caliber 2789, a 25-jewel movement displaying a warm gold-tone finish. The caliber presents a clean appearance with no visible corrosion, and the rotor and bridges remain fully intact. The movement bridges are clearly engraved with Rado, 25 Jewels, 2789, and 304. Recording +6+9s/day on the timegrapher, the watch is exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed bracelet, featuring a stainless steel flat-link construction that integrates nicely with the tonneau case. The bracelet shows light surface scratches throughout and secures with a signed Rado clasp bearing the anchor logo. It provides an original and well-fitting presence on the wrist, accommodating a maximum wrist size of up to 18cm.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. The dial and hands are remarkably well preserved and free of significant aging. The stainless steel case and fluted bezel present honest wear, with light surface scratches and handling marks consistent with careful use over the decades. The original flat-link bracelet shares this light surface wear. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the automatic movement is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case size is 36 mm, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Rado Silver Horse offers a highly attractive package for enthusiasts of 1970s styling. The combination of a tonneau case, a fluted bezel, and a wonderfully clean sunburst dial makes it a versatile daily wearer. History
Rado has long been recognized for its bold and unconventional approach to watch design, particularly during the dynamic era of the 1960s and 1970s. The Silver Horse line represents the brand's ability to blend robust everyday wearability with distinctive aesthetic touches, such as the signature applied anchor and seahorse emblems. The tonneau case shape and fluted bezel seen on this model reflect the definitive styling cues of the decade. Powered by the reliable ETA caliber 2789, a workhorse automatic movement known for its durability and efficiency, this Silver Horse remains a highly capable and visually striking mechanical watch from a deeply creative period in Rado's history.
