Dial and Hands
The dial presents a clean silver sunburst finish, delivering a bright and highly legible aesthetic. Applied steel indices feature black inserts that coordinate perfectly with the crisp, intact printed text. At the outer edge of the indices, the luminous plots have aged to a dark, degraded state. The dauphine hands also feature black inserts and display honest aging, with visible oxidation and pitting across their metal surfaces, while their luminous fills are similarly dark and degraded.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case is remarkably well-preserved, retaining a sharp lug profile with well-defined edges. Light surface scratches are present, consistent with careful wear over the decades. The polished steel bezel is smooth, showing only light handling marks. On the reverse, the caseback displays a crisp and deep hippocampus medallion. The watch is fitted with a signed Omega crown featuring a scalloped edge design with defined teeth. A clear, domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, showing no major scratches or visible crazing.
Movement
Powering the watch is the Omega Caliber 565 automatic movement, featuring 24 jewels and the brand's signature bright, clean copper-colored finish. The plates and bridges show no visible corrosion or significant scratches, while the rotor exhibits only minor edge wear. Engravings of the caliber and serial number are clearly visible. The timegrapher recorded a result of +1+5s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a complementary brown leather strap detailed with contrast stitching. It appears to be in very good condition with minimal wear.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. The stainless steel case remains sharp and well-preserved, showing only light scratches and retaining a crisp caseback medallion. The clean silver sunburst dial is highly attractive, though both the dial luminous plots and the dauphine hands show dark, degraded lume, alongside oxidation and pitting on the handset. The acrylic crystal is clear. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result of +1+5s/day, the movement is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 34mm in diameter (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This 1969 Seamaster offers a highly attractive combination of a clean sunburst dial and a sharp, well-defined case. With its reliable Caliber 565 movement and crisp hippocampus caseback, it remains a highly wearable and honest vintage Omega.
History
The Omega Seamaster was introduced in 1948 to celebrate the brand's centenary, originally conceived as a robust yet elegant timepiece for active individuals. By the late 1960s, the Seamaster line had expanded into various specialized configurations while maintaining its core reputation for durability and precision. The Caliber 565, introduced during this era, is highly regarded by collectors for its robust automatic winding architecture and practical quickset date mechanism, representing a high point in Omega's mid-century mechanical production.
