This classic 1970s Omega Genève presents a distinctive square case design typical of the era's adventurous styling, paired with an attractive vertically brushed silver dial.
Brand: Omega
Model: Genève
Movement: Mechanical
Dial: Vertically brushed silver with black-insert indices
Case Size: 34 mm (excluding the crown)
Case Material: Stainless steel
Production Year: 1970s
Condition: Good vintage condition. Timegrapher: -4-6s/day, performing remarkably well.
Dial and Hands
The silver dial displays a pronounced vertical brushed finish that catches the light beautifully, offering a well-preserved texture. Applied Omega logo and baton indices feature striking black inserts, adding sharp contrast and excellent legibility against the bright background. The matching stick hands carry identical black inserts and present in clean condition with minimal signs of oxidation, matching the dial furniture perfectly. No visible luminous material is present on the dial or hands, keeping the aesthetic formal and sharp. The dial's printing remains crisp and intact, while the surface shows some minor age-related spotting and dust particles.
Case and Crystal
The square, cushion-shaped stainless steel case highlights strong 1970s geometry. It features brushed finishing on the upper surfaces with polished flanks, retaining its original finishing contrasts to great effect. Honest wear consistent with age is present, with moderate scratches and handling marks visible throughout the metal. The flat acrylic crystal is set directly into the case without a distinct bezel, emphasizing the sleek profile, and remains generally clear with some minor surface scratches visible under certain lighting. The watch retains its clearly signed Omega crown, which shows some wear to its knurled edge while remaining defined. The blank caseback displays a brushed finish and surface scratches.
Movement
The watch is powered by a mechanical Omega movement. Timegrapher testing indicates a rate of -4-6s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a sturdy period-correct stainless steel block-link bracelet. It features a brushed finish and shows normal signs of use, including moderate scratches and wear across the links. The bracelet accommodates a maximum wrist size of up to 18.5cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The case and period-correct bracelet present honest wear with moderate scratches and handling marks consistent with their age. The silver dial is well-preserved, displaying minor age-related spotting and dust particles over its attractive brushed texture. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the movement is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 34 mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Genève offers a highly wearable entry into 1970s Omega design. The striking square case and matching black-insert dial furniture provide a distinct retro aesthetic, backed by highly impressive mechanical performance.
History
The Genève line was introduced by Omega as a tribute to their workshops in Geneva, eventually growing into one of the brand's most diverse and accessible collections. During the 1970s, the collection fully embraced the bold styling of the decade, frequently experimenting with cushion and square case shapes that departed from traditional round watchmaking conventions. These models reflect a fascinating era of transition in Swiss design, offering robust mechanical movements wrapped in expressive, modern geometry. Today, these distinctive square-cased variants hold strong appeal for enthusiasts seeking genuine mid-century character and reliable mechanical performance.
