Dial and Hands
The watch features a pristine silver sunburst dial that remains remarkably clean, showing no visible spotting or moisture damage. It is detailed with crisp printing and applied baton indices featuring contrasting black inserts. The matching stick hands also carry black inserts and display honest wear, with minor oxidation visible on their metal edges under magnification. The luminous material on the hands remains intact but exhibits appropriate aging.
Case and Crystal
The crisp and well-preserved stainless steel case features a classic 1970s tonneau shape with sharp, defined geometry. It showcases a beautiful contrast between the well-preserved brushed finish on the top surfaces and the polished flanks, which bear only light handling marks. A smooth polished bezel ring frames the dial, showing light micro-scratches consistent with careful wear. The watch retains its signed Omega crown, complete with crisp knurling. A slightly raised, flat acrylic crystal protects the dial and remains clear, with no major scratches or crazing visible.
Movement
Inside beats the Omega Caliber 1012, an automatic movement introduced in 1972 that operates at a high-beat rate and features both a quickset date and hacking seconds. Visually, the movement presents a clean appearance with its signature copper-colored plating, showing no visible corrosion or staining. The rotor remains intact and well-finished, while the caliber and matching serial number engravings are clearly present. On the timegrapher, it measures -6-10s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed stainless steel link bracelet, complementing the case's integrated-style design. This matching and well-preserved bracelet features a brushed finish and displays only light surface wear. It secures with a signed Omega clasp and accommodates a maximum wrist size of 18cm.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. The dial is exceptionally clean and well-preserved, while the hands show only minor, honest oxidation visible under magnification. The stainless steel case retains its sharp geometry and contrasting finishes, displaying only light handling marks and careful wear on the polished bezel. The original bracelet is similarly well-preserved. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the movement is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 36mm in diameter (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Omega Geneve stands out through its exceptionally clean dial and sharp case geometry. Retaining its original signed bracelet and demonstrating strong mechanical performance, it offers a highly cohesive and well-preserved example of 1970s Omega design.
History
The Omega Geneve line represents a period of prolific and varied design for the brand during the late 1960s and 1970s. The reference 166.0173 specifically reflects the stylistic shifts of the era, featuring a tonneau-shaped case with an integrated lug design that measures 43.5mm lug-to-lug with a 19mm lug width. Powered by the Caliber 1012, a high-beat automatic movement introduced in 1972, this model demonstrates Omega's commitment to advancing mechanical reliability alongside striking mid-century aesthetics.
