Now available at auction from Second Vintage A classic and reliable 1970s Omega dress watch, this timepiece is defined by its exceptionally clean, vertically brushed champagne dial and its robust automatic movement. Offering classic 1970s dress watch proportions, it presents a handsome aesthetic that remains highly versatile today. Brand: Omega Reference Number: 166 0202 Serial Number: 37016040 Movement: Automatic, caliber 1012, 23 jewels Dial: Champagne with vertical brushed finish, applied indices Case Size: 35 mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Gold-plated, stainless steel caseback Production Year: 1973 Condition: Good vintage condition. Timegrapher: -1-3s/day, performing remarkably well. Dial and Hands The exceptionally clean and well-preserved dial features a striking champagne color with a distinct vertical brushed finish. The applied indices are clean and intact, accented by black inserts that perfectly match the stick hands. The printed text remains crisp and fully legible across the surface, with no significant spotting or moisture damage visible. The well-preserved hands exhibit minor surface oxidation visible under magnification, but show no severe corrosion or bending. Case and Crystal The gold-plated case, featuring a stainless steel caseback and an integrated bezel, displays honest wear consistent with its age. There is visible plating loss, particularly noticeable on the lug edges, alongside general surface scratches and handling marks present throughout the case and the light surface scratches on the caseback. The domed acrylic crystal is generally clear, showing some minor surface scratches and dust, but no deep cracks or chips are visible. The watch is fitted with an Omega-signed crown that retains defined knurling, though it shows some minor wear to the plating. Movement Inside the case beats the Omega caliber 1012 automatic movement, a 23-jewel mechanism that presents beautifully. The copper-colored plating is bright and clean, with the rotor and bridges appearing well-preserved. Engravings including OMEGA SWISS, TWENTY-THREE 23 JEWELS, 1012, and the serial number 37016040 are clearly visible. There are no obvious signs of corrosion, moisture, or heavy tool marks on the movement. Recording -1-3s/day on the timegrapher. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. Strap The watch is paired with an attractive black leather strap featuring white contrast stitching. It appears to be in lightly used condition and complements the vintage character of the watch perfectly. Condition Good vintage condition. The dial is exceptionally clean and well-preserved, standing out as the visual highlight of the watch. The gold-plated case shows honest wear, with noticeable plating degradation on the extremities and general surface scratches. The crystal and hands bear minor, age-appropriate wear. The movement is notably bright and clean, and is supported by strong timegrapher results. Dimensions The case measures 35 mm (excluding the crown). Remarks This Omega delivers a highly attractive vertically brushed dial and a beautifully preserved caliber 1012 movement. It is a highly wearable 1970s dress watch that combines reliable mechanical performance with honest, characterful wear.
