Presented for auction by Second Vintage A classic and highly wearable vintage Seamaster, this 1972 example stands out through its exceptionally clean silver sunburst dial. The striking contrast of black baton indices against the bright silver finish gives this timepiece a sharp, highly legible presence on the wrist, backed by a beautifully preserved copper-plated movement. Brand: Omega Model: Seamaster Reference Number: 166.0167 Serial Number: 35411717 Movement: Automatic, Caliber 1012 Dial: Silver sunburst with applied black baton indices Case Size: 36mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Stainless Steel Production Year: 1972 Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Timegrapher: +12+15s/day, performing remarkably well. Dial and Hands The silver sunburst dial is exceptionally clean and well-preserved, showing no significant spotting or staining. It features applied black baton indices that provide excellent contrast, paired perfectly with matching black baton hands whose finish remains intact with no visible corrosion. The printed text is crisp and intact across the dial, while the date window at three o'clock is finished with an applied frame, completing the highly legible and refined display. Case and Crystal The stainless steel case displays honest vintage wear with well-preserved geometry, retaining good lug shape. It features an attractive contrast between satin-brushed sides and a polished upper surface, integrated with a smooth polished bezel. Light to moderate surface scratches consistent with age and use are present across the case and bezel. The caseback features a crisp Seamaster hippocampus medallion. The watch is fitted with a domed acrylic crystal that shows some light surface scratches visible under certain lighting angles, and the signed Omega crown features well-defined knurling. Movement Powering this watch is the Omega Caliber 1012 automatic movement, featuring 23 jewels, a beat rate of 28,800 A/h, a quickset date function, and an approximate 42-hour power reserve. The movement is visually very clean, with its signature copper-colored plating remaining bright and intact. The rotor and bridges are clean, showing no visible signs of corrosion, moisture damage, or significant tool marks, and bear crisp engravings including the caliber and serial numbers. Recording +12+15s/day on the timegrapher, it is exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. Strap The watch is paired with a complementary black leather strap featuring white contrast stitching, which appears to be in lightly used condition. Condition Excellent vintage condition. The dial and hands are exceptionally clean and well-preserved. The case and bezel exhibit honest vintage wear with light to moderate surface scratches, while the lugs retain good shape and the caseback medallion remains crisp. The domed acrylic crystal shows only light surface scratches. The movement is visually excellent and, supported by the timegrapher results, is performing remarkably well. Dimensions The case size is 36mm (excluding the crown). Remarks This Seamaster is a classic and highly wearable vintage reference. With its exceptionally clean dial, crisp caseback medallion, and beautifully preserved high-beat movement, it offers tremendous appeal for those seeking a sharp and reliable 1970s Omega. History The Omega Seamaster line has long been celebrated for its robust construction and clean aesthetics. By the early 1970s, the collection included versatile references like the 166.0167, which balanced sporting durability with everyday elegance. This era also saw the introduction of the Caliber 1012, a high-beat automatic movement designed to offer precise timekeeping and modern conveniences such as the quickset date. Today, these early 1970s Seamasters are appreciated by collectors for their strong mechanical performance and enduring design.
