Now available at auction from Second Vintage This sought-after classic 'beefy lug' Seamaster Calendar configuration presents a highly desirable collector profile, combining honest aging with significant mechanical pedigree. Powered by the Caliber 503, Omega's first full-rotor automatic movement to feature a date complication, this circa 1960 timepiece retains its prominent caseback Seahorse medallion and attractive even dial patina. Brand: Omega Model: Seamaster Calendar Reference Number: 2849 11 SC Serial Number: 17192424 Movement: Omega Caliber 503, 20 jewels, automatic Dial: Lightly patinated with applied gold-tone faceted indices and framed date window Case Size: 34mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Gold-tone, stainless steel caseback Production Year: circa 1960 Condition: Good vintage condition. Timegrapher: +15+17s/day, performing remarkably well. Dial and Hands The dial displays an attractive, even vintage aging characterized by light spotting and uniform patina across the surface. Applied gold-tone faceted indices provide excellent depth alongside the framed date window positioned at three o'clock. All printed text remains fully legible. The gold-tone dauphine hands show visible oxidation and surface patina consistent with the dial, aging appropriately for the watch. Case and Crystal The gold-tone case features thick, prominent 'beefy' lugs that maintain their preserved overall geometry despite honest vintage wear. There are moderate scratches and handling marks throughout, alongside some wear and softening to the lug edges. A smooth gold-tone bezel integrated into the case design shows scratches and minor dings consistent with the case wear. The watch retains its signed gold-tone crown, which bears an embossed Omega logo and exhibits some wear to the knurling and emblem. The stainless steel press-in caseback features a prominent Seahorse medallion. A domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, showing light surface scratches visible under direct light but no major cracks or chips. Movement Inside beats the 20-jewel Omega Caliber 503 automatic movement, featuring the copper-colored finishing typical of vintage Omega production. The caliber presents a generally clean appearance with minor surface marks, while the rotor shows some light wear to the edge. The movement is engraved with its serial number, matching the production era. The timegrapher records a rate of +15+17s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. Strap The watch is fitted with a complementary black leather strap featuring contrast stitching. The material shows light wear and creasing from use. Condition Good vintage condition. The watch displays honest wear throughout, with moderate scratches on the gold-tone case, softened lug edges, and consistent oxidation on the hands. The dial exhibits an attractive, uniform spotting. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the movement is performing very strongly. Dimensions The case measures 34mm in diameter, excluding the crown. Remarks This Seamaster Calendar offers a highly appealing combination of the robust 'beefy lug' case geometry and a beautifully aged dial. The presence of the Caliber 503 automatic movement and the distinct Seahorse caseback medallion make this a compelling acquisition for collectors of mid-century Omega. History The Omega Seamaster Calendar reference 2849 was part of the brand's international collection during the late 1950s and early 1960s. It holds a significant place in the manufacturer's mechanical development, as the reference was introduced to house the Caliber 503, which was Omega's first full-rotor automatic movement featuring a date complication. Designed with a distinct press-in caseback and robust lugs, the 2849 remains a recognized and appreciated configuration among vintage watch enthusiasts.
