Dial and Hands
The dial is a visual standout, featuring a brilliant sunburst texture that transitions smoothly from a lighter grey center to deep, rich brown edges. It is adorned with highly polished, applied silver-tone baton indices that catch the light beautifully alongside the applied "SEIKO" and "LM" logos. A crisply framed day-date aperture sits at the three o'clock position. The silver-tone baton hands feature a contrasting black central stripe for enhanced legibility, complemented by a slender sweep second hand. A close inspection of the dial reveals an exceptionally clean surface, free from any visible spotting, moisture marks, print loss, or discoloration, presenting a stunning and well-preserved face.
Case and Crystal
The 36mm stainless steel case retains a strong and sharp profile, showcasing a handsome contrast between the brushed flat upper surfaces and the brightly polished case flanks. The lug edges remain well-defined, exhibiting only honest, light signs of wear consistent with careful use over the decades. The watch is fitted with its signature faceted crystal, a hallmark of the era, which adds incredible depth and architectural interest to the dial below. The crystal displays some light surface scratches typical of its age, but remains structurally sound and visually impressive. The solid screw-down caseback is clearly engraved with all factory markings, including the reference and serial numbers.
Movement
Powering this timepiece is the Seiko automatic caliber 5606A, a highly regarded 23-jewel movement known for its reliability and smooth operation. The movement presents cleanly, with all factory engravings, including the caliber number and jewel count, clearly visible on the rotor and bridges. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. Timegrapher results show a deviation of -30 to -37 seconds per day.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original period-correct stainless steel multi-link bracelet, which drapes comfortably on the wrist. The originality of the bracelet is confirmed by the clearly visible "SEIKO LM" branding embossed on the outer folding clasp. The bracelet shows light, normal vintage wear and will accommodate a wrist size of up to 18cm.
Condition
This timepiece is presented in excellent vintage condition. The case remains sharp and unpolished in appearance, retaining its factory finishes and crisp transitions. The dial and hands are remarkably well-preserved, showing no signs of degradation. The faceted crystal shows minor surface wear but retains its dramatic visual effect. The original signed bracelet completes this highly authentic and attractive vintage package.
Dimensions
The stainless steel case measures 36 mm in diameter, excluding the crown. The included original bracelet is sized to comfortably fit a wrist circumference of up to 18 cm.
Remarks
This Seiko Lord Matic is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a mechanically robust and visually distinct vintage timepiece. The combination of the faceted crystal and the gradient dial creates a wearing experience that is undeniably retro yet timelessly appealing. It is a highly collectible reference that offers tremendous value and character.
History
Introduced in the late 1960s, the Seiko Lord Matic (LM) series was designed to be a premium offering for the everyday professional, sitting proudly alongside the King Seiko and Grand Seiko lines. Powered primarily by the sophisticated 5600 series movements, the Lord Matic range became known for its thin automatic calibers, elegant case designs, and high-quality dial executions. During the 1970s, Seiko experimented boldly with faceted crystals and vibrant dials, making the Lord Matic a canvas for some of the brand's most expressive and memorable designs of the period.
