This Seiko Lord Matic reference 5606-7260 represents the golden era of Japanese watchmaking, offering a compelling blend of "Grammar of Design" case lines and a vibrant aesthetic. Produced in October 1972, this timepiece features a striking deep blue sunburst dial that plays beautifully with the light, further enhanced by the distinct faceted crystal that was a signature of the high-end Lord Matic line. With its bilingual Day/Date complication featuring Kanji characters and the reliable 5606 movement, this watch is a fantastic example of JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) horology that bridges the gap between the standard lineup and the prestigious King Seiko models.

Dial and Hands
The dial is a stunning example of Seiko's mastery over color, featuring a deep blue sunburst finish that remains in exceptional condition. Applied silver block indices with faceted details catch the light dynamically, matching the slender silver baton hands. The dial features the applied "SEIKO" and "LM" logos, along with the Suwa Seikosha factory symbol above the six o'clock position. A framed day and date window is located at three o'clock, featuring a bilingual calendar wheel that displays days in both English and Kanji, a highly desirable feature for collectors.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case measures 36mm and follows the classic design language of the early 1970s with sharp lines and tapered lugs. The case exhibits normal signs of vintage wear with surface scratches consistent with age, but the geometry remains distinct. The watch is fitted with a faceted mineral crystal, which adds a unique depth and character to the dial viewing experience, creating interesting light reflections across the blue surface. The screw-down caseback is clearly engraved with the reference number, serial number, and branding.
Movement
Powering the watch is the high-grade Seiko Caliber 5606A automatic movement. This 25-jewel movement was a tier above the standard movements of the time, offering both hacking and hand-winding capabilities. The movement is clean and the rotor is signed with the caliber specifications. Timegrapher testing indicates a rate of approximately -45 to -55 seconds per day, suggesting a complete and functioning vintage mechanism.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring white contrast stitching. The strap is in very good condition and complements the sportier yet elegant nature of the blue dial, securing with a stainless steel pin buckle.
Condition
This timepiece is in excellent vintage condition. The dial is remarkably clean and free of significant aging or staining. The case shows honest wear with scratches and handling marks typical of a watch from 1972, but no major dings that detract from its shape. The faceted crystal shows some light marks and scratches which are common for this crystal type but does not obscure the dial visibility.
Dimensions
The case diameter is 36mm excluding the crown, offering a classic vintage fit that sits comfortably on a variety of wrist sizes.
Remarks
This Lord Matic is a quintessential 1970s Seiko, combining the desirable faceted crystal with a rich blue dial and Kanji day wheel. It represents excellent value for collectors looking for King Seiko build quality and design DNA in a more accessible package.
History
The Lord Matic (LM) line was introduced by Seiko in 1968 and positioned as a high-mid-range offering, sitting just below the King Seiko and Grand Seiko lines. It was the successor to the Lord Marvel and was designed to offer high-quality automatic movements in sophisticated cases. The Caliber 5606 used in this series was one of Seiko's most successful thin automatic movements, serving as the base for many high-beat chronometers of the era. The Lord Matic series played a crucial role in popularizing automatic watches in Japan and remains a favorite among vintage enthusiasts today for its variety of dial designs and robust build quality.
