The Seiko Lord Matic line represents a golden era of Japanese watchmaking, bridging the gap between accessible everyday timepieces and the high-end luxury of Grand Seiko and King Seiko. Introduced in the late 1960s, the LM series offered advanced automatic movements, sophisticated case designs, and a level of finishing that punched far above its weight. This particular example showcases a captivating blue sunburst dial, a hallmark of Seiko's design prowess during this period, offering a dynamic interplay of light and color that remains highly sought after by collectors today.

Dial and Hands
The dial is a striking deep blue with a pronounced horizontal linear texture that shifts dynamically under different lighting conditions. Applied faceted silver-tone baton indices are present at all hours, featuring distinct central black stripes that match the design of the baton hands. The Seiko Automatic logo is applied just below 12 o'clock, while the LM and Suwa Seikosha logos are proudly displayed above 6 o'clock. A framed day-date window sits at the 3 o'clock position. The dial shows some signs of age, including light edge wear and minor spotting visible under close inspection, particularly near the 9 o'clock index, consistent with its vintage nature. The hands remain crisp and highly legible.
Case and Crystal
The 36mm stainless steel case features classic Seiko geometry from the era, with sharp, angular lugs and a smooth polished bezel. The case exhibits honest signs of wear, including superficial scratches and minor scuffs along the polished flanks and bezel, typical of a watch that has been enjoyed over the decades. The transitions between the brushed and polished surfaces remain reasonably well-defined. The watch is fitted with a domed crystal that presents cleanly, offering an unobstructed view of the textured dial beneath, with only minor micro-scratches visible under harsh light. The original signed crown is present and functions correctly.
Movement
Powering this Lord Matic is the Seiko Caliber 5606A, a highly regarded 23-jewel automatic movement known for its reliability and smooth operation. The movement features a quickset day and date function and hacking seconds. The caseback bears the serial number 294351, dating production to September 1972. The movement is clean and bright, with the rotor clearly marked "23 Jewels Japan 5606A". Running in vintage operational condition. Maintains the authentic mechanical character of the era. The timegrapher result is -55-60s/day.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a dark blue leather strap featuring an alligator-style embossed pattern and matching blue stitching. The strap compliments the dial perfectly and is secured with a standard stainless steel pin buckle. It shows minimal signs of wear and remains supple and ready for use.
Condition
This Seiko Lord Matic is in good vintage condition. The case shows normal, honest wear with surface scratches and minor scuffs, but no major dents or deep impacts. The beautiful blue textured dial exhibits some light, age-related wear and minor spotting near the edges, adding character without detracting from its overall visual appeal. The movement is running and operational, reflecting its vintage status.

History
Seiko's Lord Matic series, introduced in 1968, was positioned just below the King Seiko and Grand Seiko lines, offering high-quality automatic movements and refined styling to a broader audience. The 5600 series movements used in the LM range were highly successful and eventually formed the basis for later King Seiko and Grand Seiko calibers. The Lord Matic represents a sweet spot in vintage Seiko collecting, combining excellent mechanics, diverse and interesting dial designs, and accessible value.
