Dial: Silver Sunburst
Case Size: 36 mm (excluding the crown)
Case Material: Stainless Steel

Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The watch presents beautifully with sharp case lines and a pristine dial. Timegrapher results show the movement is running between +8 and +11 seconds per day, which indicates healthy movement performance.
Dial and Hands
The silver sunburst dial is preserved in outstanding condition, radiating a clean and bright finish that catches the light beautifully. It features raised, polished baton hour markers and matching silver hands that remain crisp and corrosion-free. A distinctive feature is the Rado anchor logo at the 12 o'clock position, set against a purple backdrop, which rotates freely as intended. A date window is positioned at 3 o'clock, displaying the date in red numerals for a subtle pop of color.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case features a distinctive octagonal, faceted design that is emblematic of the 1970s era. The case edges remain sharp and defined, suggesting the watch has seen very careful usage and retains its original geometry. The original crown is signed with the Rado anchor logo. The screw-down caseback is in excellent condition, clearly displaying the reference number and the famous Rado "Water Sealed" seahorse medallion engraving. The crystal is clear and free from distracting scratches.
Movement
Powering the watch is a high-grade Rado signed automatic movement, based on the reliable Swiss ETA 2824 architecture with 25 jewels. The movement appears visually clean and well-maintained. It is running within vintage tolerances, with timegrapher readings between +8 and +11 seconds per day, offering reliable vintage performance for daily wear.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original Rado stainless steel bracelet, featuring a flat-link design that integrates smoothly with the case. The clasp is signed with the Rado name and anchor logo. The bracelet is in very good condition with minimal stretch and fits a wrist size of approximately 17.5 cm.
Condition
This timepiece is in excellent vintage condition. The dial is flawless to the naked eye, and the case shows only very minor hairline scratches consistent with light handling over decades. The factory brushing on the upper case surfaces is still visible, and the polished sides retain their luster. It is a very clean and honest example that requires no immediate attention.
Dimensions
The case measures 36 mm in width excluding the crown, offering a classic vintage fit that wears slightly larger due to the angular case shape.
Remarks
The Rado Schilthorn is a testament to the brand's commitment to unique shapes and robust construction during the golden age of mechanical watch design. The combination of the faceted case, the red date wheel, and the rotating anchor makes this a conversation piece that is as stylish today as it was fifty years ago.
History
Rado, originally founded as Schlup & Co. in Lengnau, Switzerland in 1917, began selling watches under the Rado brand name in the 1950s. They quickly established a reputation for innovation, particularly in the use of scratch-resistant materials and unconventional designs. The Schilthorn model, named after the famous summit in the Bernese Alps, reflects the adventurous and modernist spirit of the brand during the 1970s, a period where Rado solidified its place as a leader in avant-garde Swiss watchmaking.
