The Omega Speedmaster is undeniably one of the most recognizable and historically significant chronographs ever produced. While the manual-wind Professional models often dominate the conversation, the Speedmaster Automatic line successfully translated that iconic design language into a highly practical, everyday companion. This specific iteration, featuring a striking reverse panda dial configuration, perfectly bridges the gap between utilitarian instrument and refined sports watch. Its robust automatic movement, paired with the convenience of a date function, makes it an exceptionally versatile timepiece that retains all the quintessential Speedmaster DNA.

Dial and Hands
The dial of this Speedmaster is a masterclass in contrast and legibility, presented in a highly sought-after reverse panda configuration. The matte black main dial serves as a deep, absorbing backdrop for the three recessed silver sub-dials located at the 6, 9, and 12 o'clock positions. These registers feature a refined concentric circular snailing texture that catches the light beautifully and adds significant depth to the display. Applied silver-tone baton indices mark the hours, accompanied by a framed date aperture at the 3 o'clock position. The dial condition is absolutely outstanding, remaining exceptionally clean and completely devoid of spotting, staining, or moisture damage. The luminous material on the outer hour plots has aged gracefully to a warm, even creamy pumpkin tone, providing a magnificent vintage character. The white painted baton hands feature luminous inserts that perfectly match the patina of the dial plots, while the crisp white central chronograph seconds hand ensures precise timing. All typography, including the applied Omega symbol and the "Speedmaster AUTOMATIC" text, remains sharp and fully intact.
Case and Crystal
The 39 millimeter stainless steel case features Omega\'s signature twisted lyre lugs, a design hallmark that provides a dynamic and sophisticated profile on the wrist. The case geometry remains strong, showcasing a pleasing contrast between the brushed case flanks and the polished upper lug facets. The watch is fitted with a stainless steel tachymeter bezel featuring black enamel-filled numerals, essential for the Speedmaster aesthetic. The case and bezel display honest signs of wear, including light surface scratches, minor scuffs, and handling marks consistent with normal use, but no major impacts or deep gouges. The original signed Omega crown and traditional pump pushers operate smoothly. The domed crystal protecting the dial is clear and well-preserved, allowing an unobstructed view of the pristine dial beneath. Turning the watch over reveals a solid stainless steel caseback centered by a crisp and deeply engraved Hippocampus medallion, with the matching serial number clearly engraved on the outer edge.
Movement
Powering this chronograph is the robust and highly reliable Omega Caliber 1155 automatic movement, based on the legendary Valjoux 7750 architecture. The movement features 25 jewels and is beautifully finished, with attractive perlage visible on the base plates and a cleanly brushed rotor bearing the golden Omega signature and caliber designation. The mechanical components present beautifully in the macro photography, appearing clean and meticulously maintained. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The timegrapher indicates a deviation of -2 to -5 seconds per day with strong amplitude. Movement has been serviced and performs strongly.
Strap
The watch is secured by its original stainless steel Omega bracelet, featuring the classic five-link design that drapes comfortably across the wrist. The bracelet is fitted with a secure folding clasp signed with the Omega logo and the "Speedmaster" script. The endlinks are correctly stamped with the 813 reference code. The bracelet shows normal surface wear, including typical desk-diving marks and light scratches on the clasp and links, entirely consistent with the overall honest condition of the watch.
Condition
This timepiece is presented in excellent vintage condition. It perfectly balances a flawless, highly attractive dial boasting premium creamy patina with a case and bracelet that show normal, honest signs of wear. The structural integrity of the watch is superb, and the minor surface scuffs only add to its authentic vintage charm without detracting from its stunning wrist presence.
Dimensions
The case measures 39 mm in diameter, excluding the crown. The bracelet will accommodate a wrist size of up to 19 cm.
Remarks
A reverse panda dial on a Speedmaster Automatic is a configuration that consistently draws the eye of astute collectors. The interplay between the stark black dial, the silver textured sub-dials, and the warm, aged luminous material creates a visually arresting aesthetic. This is a highly wearable, historically rooted chronograph that offers tremendous value and undeniable style.
History
Introduced to offer a self-winding alternative to the legendary Moonwatch, the Speedmaster Automatic line broadened the appeal of Omega\'s flagship chronograph. By incorporating robust automatic calibers and a date complication into a slightly more compact case, Omega created a watch perfectly suited for daily wear while retaining the vital tachymeter bezel and lyre lug case design that made the original Speedmaster a global icon.
