Dial and Hands
The striking silver dial features a subtle, attractive metallic stardust texture that catches the light beautifully, remaining exceptionally clean and free of spots, moisture marks, or surface damage. Applied hour markers with gold-tone surrounds house original tritium luminous material that has aged to an appealing, even creamy greenish-yellow patina. The classic gold-tone Mercedes hands and the sweep seconds hand retain their matching luminous fills, showing consistent aging with the dial indices. The printed text, including the iconic applied TAG Heuer shield and the automatic 200 meters designation, remains crisp and fully intact, while the date aperture at three o'clock provides practical daily utility.
Case and Crystal
The 37mm stainless steel case retains strong, well-defined proportions, exhibiting honest signs of wear consistent with its age and sporting intent. The unidirectional rotating bezel features the signature steel riders and a colored enamel TAG Heuer badge at twelve o'clock, alongside gold-plated inner accents that display noticeable fading and plating loss, adding an authentic vintage character to the piece. The gold-plated screw-down crown remains sharp and fully functional. The flat sapphire crystal, as confirmed by the caseback engraving, is well-preserved and provides an unobstructed view of the dial beneath. The screw-down caseback is deeply engraved with all factory markings, reference numbers, and the serial number clearly legible.
Movement
The watch is powered by a reliable Swiss automatic movement, securely housed within the robust case. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. The timegrapher results reflect a deviation of -25 to -30 seconds per day.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original TAG Heuer stainless steel bracelet, featuring brushed links that complement the case finish. The folding safety clasp is proudly stamped with the TAG Heuer shield on the exterior and bears the correct factory reference codes 513/3 A on the inner folding blades. The bracelet shows moderate stretch and surface scuffs expected from regular wear, accommodating a wrist size of up to 17.5 cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The timepiece presents a strong, honest aesthetic with a remarkably clean dial and attractive luminous patina, contrasted by noticeable but character-building wear and plating loss on the gold-tone bezel elements and case surfaces.
