À propos de cette montre
Presented for auction by Second Vintage
The Seiko Lord Matic "Special" represents a significant step up in the hierarchy of Seiko's vintage lineup, featuring a higher-grade movement architecture that would eventually inspire modern high-end Seiko calibers. This specific reference 5206-5060 features a stunning deep blue dial with a rich vertical brushed texture that plays beautifully with the light, housed in a distinctively 1970s rectangular case. Recently serviced, this timepiece combines reliable mechanical performance with striking vintage aesthetics, offering a sophisticated presence on the wrist.
Brand: Seiko

Reference Number: 5206-5060
Serial Number: 2N7118
Movement: Automatic Cal. 5206
Dial: Deep blue vertical brushed
Case Size: 35 mm (excluding the crown)
Case Material: Stainless steel
Production Year: 1972
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with sharp case lines and a serviced movement.
Dial and Hands
The dial is a captivating deep blue featuring a vertical brushed texture that adds depth and character. It is adorned with applied silver baton indices and the distinct "LM Special" branding at the 6 o'clock position. The day and date aperture is framed in silver, positioned at 3 o'clock. The handset is polished silver with central striping, remaining in excellent condition. The overall presentation of the dial is clean and vibrant, free from significant aging or moisture damage.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case features a "TV" or rectangular shape with multifaceted sides, showcasing the sharp geometric styling typical of Seiko's 1970s design language. The case edges remain well-defined, preserving the original factory lines. The crystal is clear and presents well, allowing for an unobstructed view of the textured dial. The caseback markings, including the serial and reference numbers, are crisp and clearly legible.
Movement
Powering the watch is the high-grade Caliber 5206 automatic movement, a 23-jewel mechanism known for its durability and precision. The movement has been serviced. It is currently performing exceptionally well, showing a rate of -2 to -5 seconds per day with strong amplitude on the timegrapher, which indicates a very healthy movement running within strict vintage tolerances.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original stainless steel link bracelet, complete with the signed "Seiko LM" folding clasp. The bracelet design complements the faceted case perfectly. It is sized to fit a wrist circumference of approximately 18 cm.
Condition
This timepiece is in excellent vintage condition. The case retains its sharp architectural lines with only minor surface handling marks consistent with careful use. The dial is stunningly preserved. The movement has been serviced and operates smoothly with excellent timekeeping metrics.
Dimensions
The case measures 35 mm in width excluding the crown, offering a classic vintage proportion that wears slightly larger due to the square profile. The bracelet accommodates a wrist size of 18 cm.
Remarks
The "Special" designation on this Lord Matic is not merely cosmetic; it signifies the use of the 52-series movement, which is highly regarded by collectors for its engineering quality and 28,800 bph beat rate. Finding a blue-dialed example in this condition, particularly one that has been serviced, is becoming increasingly difficult.
History
Introduced in the late 1960s, the Lord Matic (LM) line was positioned just below the King Seiko and Grand Seiko lines, targeting the upwardly mobile professional. The Lord Matic Special, introduced slightly later, upgraded the line with high-beat movements that were thinner and more refined. This particular example dates to November 1972, capturing the peak of Seiko's mechanical innovation during the quartz revolution era.
