This is an exceptional example of the Seiko Lord Matic from the 1970s, featuring one of the most collectible and striking configurations produced by the brand during this era. Known for its distinct "Grammar of Design" case lines and high-quality movement, this specific reference 5606-7320 stands out with its mesmerizing emerald green gradient dial and original faceted "cut glass" crystal. The combination of the disco-era faceted crystal and the gold-tone indices against the stainless steel case creates a unique visual depth that changes constantly under different lighting conditions. This is a Japanese Domestic Model (JDM) featuring a Kanji day wheel, adding significantly to its desirability among serious collectors.

Dial and Hands
The dial is a stunning emerald green gradient sunburst that darkens towards the outer edges, providing exceptional contrast for the applied gold-tone block indices. The gold-tone hands are faceted to catch the light and complement the hour markers perfectly. A framed day-date window is positioned at three o'clock featuring a desirable English and Kanji day wheel. The defining feature of this timepiece is the original faceted mineral crystal which features distinct angled planes that refract light across the dial surface, creating a dynamic visual effect that is highly sought after by vintage Seiko enthusiasts.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case measures 36mm and follows the classic design language of the early 1970s with sharp lugs and a blend of brushed and polished surfaces. The case geometry remains well-preserved with defined edges that have not been over-polished. The faceted crystal is in remarkable condition for its age, allowing the unique geometry of the glass to be fully appreciated without the distraction of significant damage. The crown is recessed slightly into the case at the three o'clock position, maintaining the sleek profile of the watch.
Movement
Powering the watch is the reliable Seiko Caliber 5606 automatic movement. This high-grade 23-jewel movement was a staple of the Lord Matic line and features both hand-winding and hacking capabilities, which were advanced features for the time. The movement is clean and presents well, offering reliable vintage performance.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a stainless steel multi-link bracelet that perfectly matches the vintage aesthetic of the case. The bracelet is comfortable on the wrist and features a signed Seiko clasp. It is currently sized to fit a wrist of approximately 18.5cm.
Condition
This timepiece is in excellent vintage condition. The dial is flawless with no visible staining or oxidation. The case retains its original brushed finishing and sharp lines with only minor handling marks consistent with careful use. The faceted crystal is clear and sharp. The movement is functioning correctly and the day-date quickset mechanism works as intended.
Dimensions
The case diameter is 36mm excluding the crown, offering a classic vintage proportion that slides easily under a cuff. The bracelet accommodates a wrist size of 18.5cm.
Remarks
The Seiko Lord Matic "LM" series was positioned just below the King Seiko and Grand Seiko lines, offering high-end movement technology and superior finishing. This particular example, with its combination of a green gradient dial, gold accents, and the rare faceted crystal, represents the more adventurous and funky design ethos of the 1970s. It is a fantastic conversation piece that bridges the gap between dress watch elegance and retro flair.
History
Introduced in 1968, the Seiko Lord Matic line was essential in solidifying Seiko's reputation for manufacturing high-quality automatic watches for the upwardly mobile professional. The 5606 movement inside was a marvel of mass-production engineering, offering thinness and accuracy that rivaled Swiss competitors of the era. The Lord Matic series became a canvas for Seiko designers to experiment with bold dial colors and case shapes, leaving a legacy of some of the most attractive vintage watches available today.
