Dial and Hands
The dial has undergone a magnificent, organic transformation over the decades, shifting from its original factory finish to a mesmerizing tropical stardust texture. Deep coppery and bronze tones now dominate the surface, providing a dramatic and highly desirable aesthetic. Despite this heavy oxidation, the dial remains incredibly well-preserved in its details. The black printed typography, including the serif "KING SEIKO" text and the Daini factory star logo, remains remarkably crisp, intact, and highly legible against the dark background. The applied gold-tone faceted baton indices, featuring a prominent double baton at the twelve o'clock position, catch the light beautifully and contrast perfectly with the patinated surface. The faceted gold-tone dauphine hands are sharp and well-preserved, showing only minor age-consistent aging. There is no peeling or structural damage, resulting in a visually stunning and completely unique vintage presentation.
Case and Crystal
The 34mm 14k gold-filled case retains its classic mid-century proportions, featuring broad, faceted lugs that give the watch a strong and elegant presence on the wrist. The case exhibits normal, honest signs of wear, with some softening of the original sharp factory lines and minor rubbing on the high edges, which is entirely consistent with a well-enjoyed vintage timepiece of this era. The snap-on caseback is a major highlight, bearing the iconic King Seiko shield medallion in beautifully crisp, detailed condition. The inside of the caseback clearly displays the reference J14102E, the serial number 2610574, and the 100-micron gold-filled designation alongside the Seiko crane hallmark. The watch is fitted with a domed acrylic crystal that presents clearly, offering an unobstructed view of the incredible dial beneath.
Movement
Inside beats the historically significant King Seiko 25-jewel manual wind movement, proudly produced by the Daini Seikosha facility. The movement plates are exceptionally clean and feature a refined brushed finish, highlighted by bright ruby jewels set into elegant gold-tone chatons. The bridge is clearly engraved with "KING SEIKO 25 JEWELS" and the caliber marking "14149A". Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. The timegrapher records a variance of -30 to -36 seconds per day.
Strap
The watch is paired with a handsome black leather strap, featuring robust vintage-inspired contrast stitching that perfectly complements the rich, warm tones of the dial and case. It is secured by a gold-tone pin buckle proudly bearing the Seiko signature.
Condition
Good vintage condition overall. The case shows honest, age-appropriate wear and light surface marks, while the caseback medallion remains exceptionally well-preserved. The dial is the undisputed star of this piece, exhibiting a dramatic and completely even tropical patina that adds immense character without compromising the integrity of the text or indices. The movement is clean, beautifully preserved, and fully operational.

History
Introduced in 1961 by the Daini Seikosha factory, the King Seiko line was created as a direct answer to the Grand Seiko produced by the Suwa factory. The "First" King Seiko relied on a robust and meticulously finished 25-jewel manual wind architecture to deliver exceptional accuracy, proving that Daini could match and rival the best of Suwa. These early models are revered for their bold, uncompromised case designs and the distinctive shield medallion, marking the beginning of one of the most respected and fiercely collected lineages in vintage horology.
