It was a well-known and standard production model from Seiko's 1960s lineup, recognized for its distinctive calendar layout. Unlike its predecessor, the 8971 utilizes a notched ring that aligns with a dial tab at 2 o'clock to ensure the chapter ring is easily and correctly positioned. The caliber 6218B further distinguished the model with its refined technical details, reflecting Seiko's commitment to mechanical advancement during the period.
