À propos de cette montre
Offered in this auction by Second Vintage
The Seiko Advan series represents one of the most daring and expressive eras of Japanese watchmaking in the 1970s. Designed for a youthful, fashion-forward audience, the Advan line broke away from traditional constraints, introducing boldly shaped cases, wildly colorful dials, and dramatic faceted crystals. This particular reference 7019-7150 captures that flamboyant spirit perfectly, offering a dynamic visual experience that shifts with every angle of light. It stands as a fascinating artifact of Seiko's experimental design period, appealing heavily to collectors who appreciate unapologetic vintage aesthetics and retro-futuristic charm.

Dial and Hands
The dial is a captivating two-tone composition, featuring a deep slate-blue sunburst center surrounded by a vibrant, segmented bright blue outer track. Applied faceted block indices with striking black and white accents provide excellent depth and catch the light dynamically. The dial features the applied silver-tone Seiko logo and the iconic Advan sun motif printed just above the 6 o'clock position. The framed day-date aperture at 3 o'clock displays both English and Kanji character wheels. Close visual inspection reveals honest vintage aging, including localized spotting and faint discoloration near the center Advan logo, as well as minor surface dust indicating its historic journey. The matching baton hands feature a central white stripe and exhibit age-consistent oxidation and patina along their metallic edges, paired with a crisp white sweeping second hand.
Case and Crystal
The 37-millimeter stainless steel cushion case is a quintessential 1970s silhouette, featuring seamlessly integrated lugs and a neatly recessed crown positioned at 4 o'clock. The polished surfaces of the case flanks and upper bezel area show typical, honest handling marks and superficial scratches consistent with decades of wear, retaining a handsome overall profile without overly softened edges. The watch is fitted with a striking faceted crystal, characterized by its geometric, multi-planar cuts that create a kaleidoscope effect over the dial. The crystal displays some minor edge wear and light surface scratches, perfectly in keeping with the watch's vintage nature. The screw-down caseback is cleanly engraved with the Suwa Seikosha lightning bolt logo, reference details, and serial numbers.
Movement
Inside beats the Seiko automatic caliber 7019A, a robust 21-jewel mechanism renowned for its durability and practical day-date functionality. Visual inspection of the movement reveals significant surface oxidation and aesthetic aging, particularly visible as pitting and mottling across the winding rotor and some upper plates, indicative of historical environmental exposure. Despite this heavily patinated cosmetic appearance, the movement is performing admirably. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The timegrapher results indicate a deviation of -11 to -15 seconds per day.
Strap
The watch is paired with a handsome black leather strap featuring contrasting white stitching, perfectly complementing the monochrome accents found on the dial indices and hands. The strap is in excellent, fresh condition and secures comfortably to the wrist with a standard stainless steel pin buckle.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The watch presents a striking on-wrist appearance while exhibiting clear, honest signs of its age. The case retains strong lines with moderate surface wear, and the dial shows age-appropriate spotting and oxidation on the hands and indices. The movement shows heavy cosmetic aging but functions with impressive measured accuracy.
Dimensions
The case width measures 37 millimeters excluding the crown. The lug-to-lug profile and overall proportions are highly wearable, reflecting the comfortable cushion-cased architecture standard to the 7019 Advan series.
Remarks
The faceted crystal and bold dial design make this a standout piece for any enthusiast of 1970s Japanese horology. The juxtaposition of the heavily aged movement aesthetics against its strong running performance makes this a highly interesting vintage survivor that commands attention on the wrist.
History
Introduced in the early 1970s, the Seiko Advan collection was marketed heavily in Japan as a premium, avant-garde option for a younger generation of watch buyers. The name Advan was derived from Advanced, reflecting the line's futuristic styling, irregular case shapes, and vividly colored dials. Produced primarily by the Suwa Seikosha factory, these watches have become highly sought after by modern collectors for their unique encapsulation of 1970s design language and unbridled creative freedom.
