Dial and Hands
The dial of this Golden Sabre is a visual masterpiece, featuring a horizontal gradient that transitions from a deep burgundy at the outer edges to a vibrant, glowing copper at the center. It is adorned with tall, applied faceted baton indices featuring white central inserts, perfectly matched by the baton hands and a slender sweeping seconds hand. At twelve o'clock, Rado's signature free-spinning anchor logo sits within a red medallion, just above the applied silver-tone brand text. The lower half proudly displays the printed Golden Sabre nomenclature, complete with the intricate crossed sabers and tri-color shield motif. A framed date window at three o'clock displays the date in a striking red font. Carefully inspected, the dial is in stunning condition, remaining exceptionally clean and free from visible spots, moisture damage, or print loss, retaining its dynamic factory finish.
Case and Crystal
The 36mm stainless steel case utilizes a bold tonneau shape with hooded lugs, characteristic of the era's robust design language. The case exhibits a distinct contrast between the horizontally brushed top surface and the highly polished beveled flanks. It is fitted with its original Rado anchor-signed crown. Shielding the dial is a spectacular, highly faceted acrylic crystal, cut with a nine-facet geometric star pattern that catches the light from every angle. The case remains in excellent vintage condition, displaying honest, age-consistent surface scratches and handling marks along the polished sides and bezel area without losing its structural sharpness. The crystal is well-preserved, showing only minor superficial wear that does not impede the incredible view of the dial beneath. The screw-down caseback features the embossed Rado seahorses emblem alongside its stamped reference and serial numbers.
Movement
Powering this timepiece is a Rado-signed 25-jewel automatic movement, visible upon opening the caseback. The movement features a striking gold-tone rotor, beautifully decorated with an intricate engine-turned guilloche pattern. Base caliber markings of 2797 are clearly stamped beneath the balance wheel. Running in vintage operational condition. Maintains the authentic mechanical character of the era. The timegrapher results indicate a performance of +40 to +46 seconds per day.
Strap
The watch is presented on its original stainless steel flat-link bracelet, which perfectly complements the angular geometry of the case. The fold-over clasp is clearly stamped with the Rado name and anchor logo. The bracelet shows normal signs of vintage wear and accommodates a wrist size of up to 18 cm.
Condition
This Rado Golden Sabre is in excellent vintage condition. The dial is the undisputed star, remaining nearly flawless and incredibly vibrant. The case retains its original factory lines and brushing, with honest surface wear that speaks to its history without detracting from its appeal. The signature faceted crystal remains a brilliant focal point, and the integrated original bracelet completes this highly collectible package.
Dimensions
The stainless steel case measures 36 mm in width, excluding the crown. The accompanying original bracelet is sized to fit a wrist of up to 18 cm.

History
Originally founded in 1917 as the Schlup & Co. clockwork factory, Rado officially launched its own brand of wristwatches in the 1950s. By the 1960s and 1970s, the company had carved out a unique niche in the watchmaking industry, renowned for its pioneering use of unconventional materials and radically bold designs. The Golden Sabre emerged during this golden age of experimentation, showcasing Rado's dedication to creating timepieces that were not only reliable instruments but also striking pieces of modern design. Today, these vibrant, heavily faceted models are highly sought after by collectors who appreciate the fearless creativity of the era.
