This Rado Golden Gazelle is a striking example of the brand's adventurous design language during the 1970s, combining robust construction with unique visual flair. Distinguished by its specific applied gold "gazelle" emblem and the signature rotating anchor logo, this timepiece stands out as a collectible variation distinct from the more common Horse series. With its sharp case lines, integrated bracelet, and vertically brushed dial, it offers a sophisticated vintage aesthetic that sits comfortably on the wrist while commanding attention. Very rare to find in such condition.

Dial and Hands
The silver dial is executed with a subtle vertical brushed texture that interacts beautifully with the light. It features heavy, faceted applied block indices that add depth and dimension to the face. The signature Rado anchor logo rotates freely against a red background at the 12 o'clock position, while the rare applied gold "Golden Gazelle" emblem sits proudly above the 6 o'clock mark. A date window is positioned at 3 o'clock, displaying red numerals for a pop of contrast. The hands are baton-style with black center inserts, remaining in excellent condition.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case features a distinctive tonneau shape with integrated lugs, showcasing the sharp, angular geometry typical of the era. The upper surfaces retain their original radial brushing, while the sides are polished, creating a crisp definition between planes. A standout feature is the fluted bezel ring, which remains sharp and catches the light effectively. The crystal is clear and free of distracting marks. The screw-down caseback is deeply engraved with the Rado Seahorse logo and clearly visible serial numbers.
Movement
Powering the watch is a Swiss-made Rado signed automatic movement with 25 jewels. The rotor is clean and clearly engraved. The watch is currently functioning, with timegrapher results showing a deviation of approximately -39 to -45 seconds per day, indicating the movement is running complete and operational.
Strap
The watch comes fitted with its original integrated stainless steel link bracelet. The bracelet matches the finish of the case perfectly and features a signed Rado deployant clasp with an embossed anchor logo. It is sized to fit a wrist of approximately 19cm comfortably.
Condition
This timepiece is in excellent vintage condition. The dial is exceptionally well-preserved with no visible staining or oxidation. The case retains its sharp architectural lines and original finishing, showing only minor handling marks consistent with careful use. The distinctive gold gazelle emblem and rotating anchor are intact and vibrant.
Dimensions
The case measures 35mm in diameter excluding the crown, offering a classic vintage proportion that wears slightly larger due to the tonneau case shape and integrated bracelet design.
Remarks
The Golden Gazelle is a rarer find within the vintage Rado lineup, offering a unique alternative to the omnipresent Golden Horse models. The combination of the specific gold emblem, the red date wheel, and the fluted bezel makes this a particularly charismatic example of 1970s Swiss watchmaking.
History
Rado has long been celebrated for its innovative use of materials and distinct design language. Throughout the mid-20th century, the brand established itself as a leader in creating durable and stylish waterproof watches, symbolized by the Seahorse and Anchor logos. The Golden Gazelle represents a period where Rado experimented with bold case shapes and integrated bracelets, cementing their reputation for avant-garde styling that remains collectible today.
