    À propos de cette montre

Now available at auction from Second Vintage This is a truly exceptional example of mid-century horological design and one of the most collectible dress watches produced by Longines in the 1950s. The "Mystery Dial" Admiral is famed for its unique time-telling display, where the hour hand is represented by a floating marker on a rotating inner disk, creating the illusion of detachment from the movement. Encased in solid 14k gold, this specific example has been preserved in outstanding condition, featuring a dial that remains remarkably clean and a case that retains its sharp, architectural lines. It represents a golden era of Swiss watchmaking where elegance and mechanical innovation went hand in hand. Brand: Longines Model: Admiral "Mystery Dial" 14K GOLD Reference Number: 69-162-4-A Serial Number: 0146495 Movement: Automatic Caliber 19A Dial: Silver satin mystery dial with rotating hour disk Case Size: 33 mm Case Material: 14k Solid Gold Production Year: 1955 Condition: Excellent vintage condition, featuring a near-flawless dial and a sharp solid gold case with minimal signs of wear. Dial and Hands The dial is the centerpiece of this timepiece and is preserved in stunning condition. It features a silver satin sunburst finish with applied gold baton hour markers that catch the light beautifully. The signature "Mystery" complication functions perfectly, with the gold arrow hour marker mounted on a central rotating disk that matches the main dial texture seamlessly. The minute hand is a traditional gold dauphine style. The text remains crisp and legible, and the overall aesthetic is one of pure, uncluttered elegance. Case and Crystal The solid 14k yellow gold case measures 33mm in diameter and features distinctively shaped lugs that add a touch of architectural flair. This is a front-loading monocoque case design, indicated by the "Use Admiral Wrench" engraving on the caseback ring, a feature designed to improve water and dust resistance. The gold hallmarks are clearly visible between the lugs and on the caseback ring. The case retains excellent definition with only light surface handling marks consistent with careful use, and the acrylic crystal is clear and free of distracting scratches. Movement Powering this watch is the legendary Longines Caliber 19A, a significant automatic movement in the brand's history. The movement is clean and presents very well visually. Timegrapher testing shows the watch is running exceptionally well at -2 to -5 seconds per day with strong amplitude, which indicates a healthy movement and precise mechanical function. Strap The watch is fitted with a high-quality brown leather strap with an alligator grain pattern. It is paired with a gold-tone buckle featuring the applied Longines winged hourglass logo, completing the vintage presentation perfectly. Condition This timepiece is in excellent vintage condition. The most notable aspect is the preservation of the dial, which is often a weak point on these mystery models but here appears vibrant and clean. The solid gold case shows no signs of over-polishing, retaining its original geometry. The movement is operating with chronometer-grade precision based on the testing results. Dimensions With a case diameter of 33mm excluding the crown, the watch sits with a classic, refined presence on the wrist. The lug-to-lug length and the unique lug shape allow it to wear slightly larger than the dimensions suggest, making it a perfect dress watch for formal or casual wear. Remarks The Longines Mystery Dial is a bucket-list watch for many vintage collectors, but finding one in solid 14k gold with a dial this clean is increasingly difficult. This example combines the whimsy of the floating hour indicator with the luxury of a solid gold case and the reliability of the 19A bumper automatic movement. It is a conversation starter and a piece of art on the wrist. History Longines introduced the Admiral line in the mid-20th century as a testament to their precision and build quality. The Caliber 19A was Longines' first automatic movement entirely designed and manufactured in-house, launched in 1952. The Mystery Dial variants that followed in the mid-1950s were marketed as marvels of design, capturing the imagination of the post-war public and cementing Longines' reputation for combining technical prowess with avant-garde aesthetics. / Second Vintage SKU: LON1O6L4J6000
