Dial and Hands
The dial presents a classic silvered canvas that has gracefully aged to develop a fine, even stardust patina across its surface. This light speckling provides a warm, authentic vintage character without detracting from the overall legibility or elegance of the timepiece. The original cursive "International Watch Co Schaffhausen" print remains crisp and fully intact. The dial is adorned with applied, faceted baton hour markers, featuring a distinctive double-baton arrangement at the twelve o'clock position. A subtle minute track is formed by delicate pearl-like dots at the outer perimeter. The time is indicated by sharp, faceted dauphine hands that show light, age-consistent oxidation, complemented by a slender sweep center seconds hand.
Case and Crystal
The 35mm stainless steel case features a beautifully proportioned profile with a smooth, polished bezel and gracefully swept lugs. The case lines remain strong and well-defined, showing honest, light surface wear and minor handling marks consistent with careful use over the decades. The snap-on caseback displays a brushed finish on the exterior, with some visible superficial scratches from normal wear. Inside, the caseback is properly stamped with the IWC Probus Scafusia emblem, "STAYBRITE STEEL", and the serial number 1435111. The watch is fitted with a domed acrylic crystal that protects the dial and presents cleanly, free from any deep gouges or significant visual distortions.
Movement
At the heart of this timepiece is the legendary IWC Caliber 89, a beautifully finished manual-winding movement. The visual inspection reveals an exceptionally clean mechanism adorned with crisp Geneva stripes across the bridges, polished screw heads, and prominent ruby jewels set in elegant countersinks. The bridge is clearly engraved with "INTERNATIONAL WATCH Co SWISS". Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The timegrapher results show an impressive -13 to -15 seconds per day, highlighting the enduring engineering quality of this historic caliber.
Strap
The watch is mounted on a period-correct black textured leather strap. The strap features striking white contrast stitching at the lugs and is secured with a classic stainless steel pin buckle.
Condition
This timepiece is presented in good vintage condition. The dial has acquired an honest and visually pleasing speckled patina, with no severe moisture damage or prominent stains. The stainless steel case retains its structural integrity and sharp lug profile, exhibiting only typical, superficial scratches and light handling marks. The movement is immaculately preserved visually and is running exceptionally well.

History
The International Watch Company's Caliber 89 was introduced in the late 1940s under the technical direction of Albert Pellaton. Originally designed to meet the rigorous demands of military aviation, most famously powering the legendary Mark XI pilot's watch, the Caliber 89 was also utilized in IWC's refined dress watches. Its reputation for incredible durability, accuracy, and ease of service has cemented its status as one of the greatest manual-winding movements ever produced in Switzerland. Watches housing this caliber represent a golden era of IWC's manufacturing prowess.
