This Seiko Lord Matic is a remarkable example of 1970s Japanese design creativity, featuring a captivating emerald green gradient dial paired with its original faceted crystal. Known as "cut glass" in Seiko catalogs of the era, the crystal features three horizontal planes that catch the light dramatically, distorting and reflecting the dial markers in a mesmerizing way. The combination of the gold-tone indices and hands against the deep green sunburst finish creates a luxurious aesthetic that bridges the gap between dress watch and avant-garde art piece. Powered by the high-grade 5606 movement, this piece represents the golden era of Suwa Seikosha manufacturing.

Dial and Hands
The dial is the absolute highlight of this timepiece, featuring a rich emerald green tone that darkens towards the edges in a subtle vignette effect. It is adorned with raised gold-tone block indices that are faceted to catch the light. The matching gold-tone baton hands are sharp and free of corrosion. The applied gold "SEIKO" and "LM" logos add depth to the face. A framed day-date window is positioned at 3 o'clock, featuring both English and Kanji day wheels, which is a desirable trait for collectors of JDM timepieces.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case measures 37mm and follows the "Grammar of Design" principles with sharp distinct surfaces and mirror-polished sides. The case preserves its original lines well with no signs of over-polishing. The defining feature is the original faceted mineral crystal, which has horizontal cuts running across the center. While the crystal shows minor hairline marks consistent with age, the facet lines remain crisp and the visual distortion effect is fully intact.
Movement
Inside beats the reliable Seiko Caliber 5606A automatic movement. This 23-jewel movement was a higher-grade engine for Seiko during this period, offering both hand-winding and hacking capabilities. The movement appears clean and free of oxidation, with the rotor spinning freely. It is currently running within vintage tolerances.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original stainless steel link bracelet, complete with the signed "LM" clasp. It fits a wrist size of approximately 17.5cm. The brushed finish on the links complements the polished case sides perfectly.
Condition
This timepiece is in excellent vintage condition. The dial is pristine with no visible staining or patina degradation. The case shows light surface scratches and handling marks typical of a watch from 1974 but retains strong geometry. The faceted crystal is original and presents very well, contributing significantly to the unique character of the watch.
Dimensions
The case diameter is 37mm excluding the crown, offering a contemporary presence on the wrist due to the unique case shape and faceted glass height.
Remarks
Finding a Lord Matic with a colored gradient dial and the original faceted crystal in this condition is becoming increasingly difficult. The "Green Emerald" variant is among the most sought-after configurations of the 5606 series. This watch is a stunning conversation piece that captures the funky yet elegant spirit of 1970s horology.
History
Introduced in 1968, the Lord Matic (LM) line was positioned just below the King Seiko and Grand Seiko in the hierarchy, offering high-quality movements and superior case finishing to the general public. Manufactured by the Suwa Seikosha factory, the LM series became the testing ground for some of Seiko's most daring designs in the 1970s, including vivid dials and faceted crystals that defined the "Disco Era" of watchmaking.
