Dial and Hands
The exceptionally clean and attractive silver sunburst dial is remarkably well-preserved for its age. Applied gold-tone indices and the seahorse logo remain crisp, while all printing is sharp and fully legible. The vibrant red date numerals add a striking touch of color, complemented by Rado's signature rotating anchor logo at 12 o'clock. The gold-tone dauphine hands and sweep seconds hand show noticeable oxidation and surface spotting, aging consistently with their vintage nature but contrasting slightly with the cleaner dial.
Case and Crystal
The gold-tone case presents honest vintage wear, displaying moderate scratches and handling marks throughout. Typical plating degradation and tarnishing are visible along the lug edges and case flanks, while the integrated smooth gold-tone bezel shows surface scratches consistent with the rest of the case. The silver-tone crown is unsigned and stands out as a visible mismatch against the gold-tone case finish. The stainless steel caseback remains in good condition, featuring clear engravings. A domed acrylic crystal protects the dial and remains clear, with no major scratches, cracks, or crazing visible.
Movement
Inside is a gold-plated 30-jewel automatic movement, based on the AS 1700/01 caliber. The movement displays general light tarnishing and noticeable surface scratches on the winding rotor, but no severe corrosion is visible. It features clear engravings reading RADO, 30 JEWELS, SWISS, and 004. Recording +8+11s/day on the timegrapher. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a modern black textured strap featuring orange contrast stitching that complements the dial accents. It appears to be in near-new condition with minimal wear.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The silver sunburst dial remains exceptionally clean, standing out as a highlight of the piece. The gold-tone case and bezel show honest wear, including moderate scratches and plating degradation along the edges and flanks. The hands exhibit visible oxidation and surface spotting. The unsigned silver-tone crown is a visible mismatch against the case. Supported by a timegrapher reading of +8+11s/day, the movement is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 35 mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Golden Horse offers an attractive and well-preserved dial with a vibrant red date display and crisp applied details. Paired with strong mechanical performance, it represents a classic era of Rado styling.
History
Introduced in 1957, the Golden Horse was the first collection presented under the Rado brand name. These early models established the design language for the company, prominently featuring the signature rotating anchor logo on the dial. The 30-jewel version of the Golden Horse 11674 is powered by an automatic movement based on the AS 1700/01 caliber, reflecting the brand's commitment to reliable mechanical performance during the 1960s.
