Dial and Hands
The dial is a stunning exercise in 1970s design, featuring a vibrant, vertically brushed blue center surrounded by a striking silver outer chapter ring with deep, radial sunburst grooving. Thick, applied gold-tone indices with black central channels provide excellent depth and contrast. The applied gold-tone Orient logo and the distinct "HA" emblem above the 21 Jewels text are crisp and perfectly aligned. A framed day-date aperture sits at the three o'clock position, displaying the day with striking red Sunday text. The gold-tone faceted baton hands feature intact luminous strips, while the small luminous dots at the base of the hour markers have aged to a gentle, attractive creamy-green hue. A thorough visual inspection reveals the dial to be in fantastic condition, remaining exceptionally clean with no visible moisture marks, spots, or surface damage, presenting a vibrant and highly attractive face.
Case and Crystal
The 38mm stainless steel case features a bold, geometric tonneau-style shape with sharply faceted lugs and flat top and bottom edges. The transition between the angles remains distinct, and the highly polished surfaces reflect light beautifully. The watch is fitted with a dramatic, highly faceted prismatic crystal that acts like a cut gem, creating captivating visual distortions and reflections over the dial. A partially recessed crown is positioned at three o'clock, complemented by a dedicated day-quickset pusher at two o'clock. The screw-down caseback is engraved with the Orient crest and reference numbers. The case remains in excellent vintage condition, showing only honest, light micro-scratches consistent with careful wear, while retaining its strong factory lines and architectural integrity.
Movement
Powering this timepiece is the robust, in-house Orient automatic caliber 46940. The movement is clearly marked with "ORIENT 21 J. 46940" on the winding rotor and "JAPAN" stamped on the base plate. The mechanism presents cleanly, reflecting standard vintage industrial finishing. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. The timegrapher results indicate a performance of -34 to -36 seconds per day.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a high-quality, period-appropriate blue leather strap. The strap features a subtle faux-alligator texture and contrasting blue stitching, which perfectly complements the vibrant blue tones of the dial and ensures a comfortable, stylish fit on the wrist.
Condition
This timepiece is presented in excellent vintage condition. The highly textured dial is remarkably clean and free of detrimental aging, while the faceted crystal remains clear and striking. The geometric stainless steel case shows normal, light handling marks but retains its sharp, distinctive angles and overall structural brilliance.
