    About This Watch

Presented for auction by Second Vintage The Omega Constellation has long stood as a pillar of Swiss watchmaking, representing the pinnacle of Omega's precision engineering and elegant design. This particular example from the early 1970s beautifully captures the era's transition into more robust, integrated architectural forms while maintaining the refined chronometer-certified heritage of the Constellation line. With its striking brushed surfaces and exceptional mechanical pedigree, this timepiece offers a substantial presence on the wrist and serves as a superb example of vintage Omega craftsmanship. Brand: Omega Model: Constellation Reference Number: 166.055 - 168.046 Serial Number: 30146926 Movement: Automatic Caliber 1001 Dial: Silver sunburst dial with applied faceted indices, showing a highly preserved finish with one tiny dark spot near the eight o'clock marker Case Size: 36 mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Stainless Steel Production Year: 1970 Condition: Excellent vintage condition with strong factory brushing and an exceptionally clean dial Dial and Hands The watch features a beautiful silver dial with a prominent vertical sunburst finish that catches the light dynamically. It is appointed with applied faceted indices featuring black inserts that provide excellent legibility and contrast, matched perfectly by the original baton hands which also carry black center stripes and intact luminous material. The applied Omega logo and Constellation star are crisp and precise, while the black printed typography remains fully intact. A framed date window sits at the three o'clock position. The dial is exceptionally clean and well-preserved, with only a very faint, tiny dark spot visible near the outer edge of the eight o'clock marker upon close inspection. Case and Crystal The 36mm stainless steel case exhibits the distinctive, robust geometry of the era, characterized by heavy vertical factory brushing on the upper surfaces that transitions sharply to polished case flanks. The lug profile remains thick and well-defined, showing honest, age-consistent handling marks and light surface scratches that do not detract from the watch's strong architectural lines. The original signed Omega crown is present and features sharp knurling. The screw-down caseback displays the iconic Constellation Observatory medallion, which remains distinct despite some visible surface scratches and tool marks from previous openings. The crystal is clear and free of significant visual obstructions, allowing an unimpeded view of the dial. Movement Powering this Constellation is the Omega Caliber 1001, a 20-jewel automatic movement that is officially certified as a chronometer, adjusted to five positions and temperature. The copper-toned movement plates are visually clean and display the serial number 30146926, properly dating the watch to circa 1970. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The timegrapher results indicate a performance of -15 to -20 seconds per day. Strap The watch is fitted with its original period-correct Omega stainless steel bracelet, featuring solid outer links and a brushed finish that perfectly complements the case. The folding clasp is prominently stamped with the raised Omega logo. The bracelet shows moderate wear and slight stretch consistent with its age, accommodating a wrist size of up to 17.5 cm. Condition This timepiece is presented in excellent vintage condition. The case retains its factory brushing and sharp geometric lines, showing only normal, honest wear for a watch of its age. The dial is stunningly preserved with only the most minor signs of age, and the hands remain in excellent shape. The caseback medallion is intact, and the movement is running strongly. Dimensions The stainless steel case measures 36 mm in diameter, excluding the signed crown. The attached original Omega bracelet will accommodate a wrist circumference of approximately 17.5 cm. Remarks This Constellation is a fantastic representation of Omega's 1970s design language, offering a perfect blend of robust steel sports watch aesthetics and high-precision chronometer performance. The integrated-style bracelet and heavily brushed case make it a versatile and highly wearable vintage piece that commands attention. History Introduced in 1952, the Constellation was designed to be Omega's flagship line, housing their most accurate and refined chronometer movements. Identified by the Observatory of Geneva medallion on the caseback—representing Omega's numerous precision records—the Constellation evolved through various design eras. By the late 1960s and early 1970s, the collection embraced bolder, more architectural case shapes, reflecting the changing tastes of the period while never compromising on the mechanical excellence that defined the Constellation name. / Second Vintage SKU: OME-OCC-0014
