Dial and Hands
The watch features a silver sunburst dial adorned with applied gold-tone indices featuring black inserts. A framed date window is positioned at 3 o'clock. The dial surface displays noticeable spotting and scattered patina, presenting an aged character with distinct spotting. The gold-tone dauphine hands, also detailed with black inserts, show moderate oxidation and spotting visible on their surfaces, matching the aged character of the dial.
Case and Crystal
The 36 mm gold-tone case is fitted with an integrated gold-tone bezel and a stainless steel caseback bearing a clear hippocampus medallion. The case displays honest wear consistent with age, including moderate scratches and handling marks, while the lug edges show some softening from wear. The bezel exhibits scratches and wear consistent with the rest of the case. The heavily worn crown does not display a clearly discernible signature. A domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, remaining clear but showing minor surface scratches and dust.
Movement
Inside the case beats the Omega caliber 562 automatic movement, featuring 24 jewels and distinctive copper-colored finishing. The movement maintains a clean appearance with minimal signs of tool marks, and the rotor and bridges remain well preserved. The engravings clearly read OMEGA WATCH Co SWISS, TWENTY-FOUR 24 JEWELS, 562, alongside the serial number 20963887. Recording +10+12s/day on the timegrapher. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is paired with a black leather strap detailed with contrasting white stitching. It is secured by an unsigned gold-tone buckle.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The gold-tone case and integrated bezel display moderate scratches, handling marks, and softened lug edges consistent with age. The silver sunburst dial and dauphine hands show noticeable scattered spotting, oxidation, and patina. The domed acrylic crystal has minor surface scratches, and the heavily worn crown lacks a discernible signature. The stainless steel caseback retains a clear hippocampus medallion. The copper-colored caliber 562 movement is visually clean, well preserved, and supported by strong timegrapher results.
Dimensions
The case measures 36 mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Seamaster offers honest 1963 production character, highlighted by its clear hippocampus caseback medallion. The reliable caliber 562 automatic movement provides a strong mechanical foundation for this classic 1960s timepiece.
History
The Omega Seamaster line, introduced in 1948, quickly gained a reputation for robust everyday wear and refined aesthetics. By the 1960s, models equipped with Omega's 500-series automatic movements, such as the caliber 562, became highly respected for their reliable winding and solid construction. The hippocampus medallion on the caseback serves as a defining hallmark of the era's Seamaster family, representing a recognizable period of mid-century watchmaking.
