About This Watch
Available now on auction by Second Vintage
This attractive Citizen Seven Star V2 represents the dynamic era of Japanese watchmaking from the early 1970s. Featuring a distinct tonneau-style case and a crisp silver dial, this timepiece combines vintage charm with practical utility. The V2 line was introduced as a higher-grade automatic series, offering improved reliability and a contemporary aesthetic that remains stylish today. Its balanced 37mm profile makes it an excellent choice for daily wear or for a collector seeking a classic Japanese domestic market timepiece.
Brand: Citizen

Case Size: 37 mm (excluding the crown)

Dial and Hands
The watch features a beautiful silver sunburst dial that catches the light elegantly. It is adorned with applied baton indices and the applied Citizen logo at the 12 o'clock position. The dial remains in very well-preserved condition with crisp black text. A framed day-date window is positioned at 3 o'clock, featuring a black day wheel and white date wheel for contrast. The baton-style hands feature black central stripes which match the indices, creating a cohesive and legible design.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case features a classic 1970s tonneau shape with a blend of brushed surfaces on the lugs and polished sides. There are visible scratches and handling marks throughout the case and bezel consistent with its age and use. The case retains its original geometry with defined edges. The crown is original and signed with the "CTZ" logo, partially recessed into the case design. The crystal is clear and presents well, offering an unobstructed view of the dial.
Movement
Powering this timepiece is a Citizen automatic caliber with 25 jewels, a robust movement from the 7200 series family. The rotor is signed "Citizen 25J". The movement is currently running, and timegrapher analysis shows a deviation of approximately -62 to -70 seconds per day, which indicates an operating vintage mechanical movement.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring white contrast stitching and a stainless steel buckle. The strap is in fresh condition and complements the monochromatic look of the dial and case perfectly.
Condition
This timepiece is in good vintage condition. While the case shows honest signs of wear including surface scratches and scuffs typical for a watch from 1970, the dial is remarkably clean and well-preserved. The caseback engravings remain deep and fully legible, including the serial number and model references.
Dimensions
The case measures 37 mm in diameter excluding the crown, providing a substantial yet comfortable presence on the wrist.
Remarks
The Seven Star V2 was a significant model for Citizen, bridging the gap between their standard automatics and higher-end pieces like the Leopard. The "V2" designation stood for the second version of their efficient automatic movement system. This specific example, with its Parawater designation and early 1970 production date, is a charming representation of the brand's history.
History
Citizen has been a pioneer in the Japanese watch industry since its founding in 1918. The company is renowned for its innovation, including the introduction of the "Parawater" in 1959, which was Japan's first fully water-resistant watch. The Seven Star line became a staple in the late 1960s and 70s, known for offering robust automatic movements and varied case designs that reflected the adventurous style of the era. This specific reference captures the transition into the 1970s design language that defined a generation of Japanese horology.
