Now Available on Auction by Second Vintage This Rado Silver Stag is a brilliant representation of 1970s watchmaking, combining a bold tonneau case with a highly dynamic dial. Known for their distinctive design language and robust engineering, Rado timepieces from this era carry a unique charm that resonates strongly with vintage collectors. With its signature rotating anchor logo and reliable ETA-based automatic movement, this Silver Stag is a highly wearable and attractive piece of horological history. Brand: Rado Model: Silver Stag Serial Number: 48070354 Movement: Automatic ETA Caliber 2798-1, 25 Jewels Dial: Vertically brushed silver dial with applied indices, presenting in exceptionally clean condition Case Size: 36 mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Stainless Steel Production Year: 1970s Condition: Excellent vintage condition with sharp case lines and a pristine dial Dial and Hands This Silver Stag features a striking vertically brushed silver dial that catches the light beautifully, creating a dynamic backdrop for the applied dial furniture. The faceted baton hour markers are detailed with contrasting black center inserts and are accompanied by intact luminous dots at their outer edges. At twelve o'clock, the iconic Rado rotating anchor logo sits proudly against a deep red background, complemented by the applied Rado text below. A neatly framed day and date complication occupies the three o'clock position. The matching baton hands feature black stripes and luminous fills, sweeping smoothly across the dial. A thorough visual inspection reveals the dial to be in stunning condition, remarkably clean and free from moisture marks, spotting, or surface degradation. Case and Crystal The 36mm stainless steel case exhibits a classic 1970s tonneau profile, characterized by its robust stance and elegant transitions. The upper case surfaces display a distinct factory-brushed finish that contrasts sharply with the high-polish case flanks and bevels. The original Rado-signed crown, bearing the anchor emblem, sits flush against the case side. The watch is fitted with a clear domed crystal that protects the dial perfectly. Turning the watch over, the screw-down caseback is adorned with the deeply stamped Rado Water-Sealed seahorse medallion, which remains crisp and well-defined alongside the engraved numerals. The case shows honest, age-consistent signs of wear, including superficial scratches, but retains its structural integrity and sharp geometry. Movement Powering this timepiece is a beautifully finished, gold-plated automatic ETA Caliber 2798-1, proudly signed by Rado and featuring 25 jewels. Close inspection of the movement reveals intricate perlage on the base plates and a distinctive textured rotor, indicative of Rado's attention to detail during this era. The caliber and jewel count are clearly stamped on the components. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. The timegrapher records a deviation of +25 to +29 seconds per day. Strap The watch is presented on its original stainless steel flat-link bracelet, which integrates seamlessly with the case design and tapers comfortably down to the folding clasp. The clasp is deeply stamped with the Rado name and anchor logo, confirming its authenticity. The bracelet displays normal handling marks consistent with the case and remains structurally sound for daily wear. Condition Presented in excellent vintage condition. The dial and hands are exceptionally well-preserved, standing out as a highlight of this piece. The stainless steel case and original bracelet exhibit honest, moderate surface wear and light scratches typical of a vintage watch, yet the case lines remain sharp and the original finishing techniques are clearly visible. The caseback medallion is highly detailed with no signs of over-polishing. Dimensions The case measures 36 mm in width, excluding the crown. The original stainless steel bracelet will accommodate a wrist size of up to 17.5 cm. Remarks The Rado Silver Stag is a fantastic representation of the brand's innovative design language from the 1970s. With its distinctive case shape, dynamic brushed dial, and the ever-charming rotating anchor logo, this piece offers a lot of character. Its excellent state of preservation makes it a highly attractive addition to any vintage collection. History Founded in 1917 as Schlup & Co. in Lengnau, Switzerland, the company eventually rebranded as Rado in the 1950s. Rado quickly built a reputation for producing highly durable, water-resistant watches with unique, forward-thinking designs. The introduction of the rotating anchor logo became a hallmark of their automatic timepieces, originally serving as a visual indicator of when the movement required service. During the 1970s, Rado released numerous distinct models with evocative names like the Silver Stag, combining robust Swiss calibers with striking, unconventional case and dial designs that remain highly sought after by vintage enthusiasts today. / Second Vintage SKU: RAD-RSS-0007
