Dial and Hands
The dial presents a clean and crisp silver sunburst finish that plays beautifully with the light. Applied baton indices with black inserts provide excellent contrast, matched by a framed date window positioned at three o'clock. The dial surface remains remarkably clean with minimal signs of aging. The dauphine style hands, also featuring black inserts, display honest wear with visible oxidation and spotting on their metal surfaces.
Case and Crystal
The well-preserved stainless steel case retains sharp edges and well-defined lug geometry. Light surface scratches consistent with careful wear are present across the case and the smooth polished bezel, along with light handling marks. The caseback is a particular highlight, featuring a crisp and deeply defined hippocampus logo on the exterior. The watch is fitted with a signed Omega crown with a knurled edge in good condition. A clear domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, showing no major scratches or crazing.
Movement
Powering this timepiece is the Omega Caliber 562 automatic movement, featuring 24 jewels and the brand's signature copper-colored plating. The movement displays a clean appearance with an intact rotor, showing only minor wear on the screw heads. Engravings on the caliber clearly read OMEGA WATCH Co SWISS, TWENTY-FOUR 24 JEWELS, 562, and the serial number 24337463. Recording +5+9s/day on the timegrapher, the movement is exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is paired with a silver-tone textured strap that complements the dial finish perfectly. The strap shows light wear and will accommodate a maximum wrist size of 19cm.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. The well-preserved stainless steel case displays sharp geometry alongside light surface scratches consistent with careful wear. The silver sunburst dial remains exceptionally clean, while the hands show honest visible oxidation and spotting. The smooth bezel and clear domed acrylic crystal are in excellent order. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the movement is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 35mm in diameter (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Seamaster stands out through its highly legible silver sunburst dial and a sharp case that proudly displays a crisp hippocampus medallion. Combined with a robust Caliber 562 movement performing exceptionally well, it is a highly capable and attractive example of classic 1960s watchmaking.
History
The Omega Seamaster reference 166.010 equipped with the Caliber 562 was produced from 1962 until approximately 1966. The automatic Caliber 562 operates at 19,800 vibrations per hour and provides a power reserve of approximately 50 hours. The movement is celebrated for its signature copper-toned alloy finish, complete with perlage on the baseplate and Côtes de Genève on the rotor and bridges. It also features a semi-quickset date mechanism, which the wearer advances by repeatedly rotating the hands past midnight and back to nine o'clock, representing a significant era of functional and elegant Omega engineering.
