Dial and Hands
The dial features a silver sunburst finish accented by applied indices with black inserts. The 'SWISS MADE T' text at the bottom indicates the presence of tritium luminous material, with intact lume pips still present at the outer edge of the indices. Under magnification, the dial reveals minor spotting and light patina, providing an attractive light aging. The stick hands, also detailed with black inserts, show visible oxidation, dirt, and degradation, particularly near the center pinion, appearing noticeably aged.
Case and Crystal
The 34 mm stainless steel case is presented with a silver-tone polished finish and a smooth integrated bezel. The case geometry displays honest vintage wear, with light surface scratches consistent with normal use, while the lugs retain generally good shape and definition. A scalloped crown, clearly signed with the Omega logo in relief, sits at the three o'clock position. The caseback features the signature Seamaster hippocampus medallion. A domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, remaining clear with no major scratches or cracks visible.
Movement
The watch is powered by an automatic caliber. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The timegrapher records a rate of +3+4s/day.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed beads of rice style bracelet, delivering classic Omega visual character. The clasp is signed with the Omega logo, and the endlinks are stamped '70'. The bracelet displays normal surface wear and light scratches on the clasp and links, accommodating a maximum wrist size of 17.5 cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The stainless steel case and smooth integrated bezel display light surface scratches consistent with normal wear, while the lugs retain good definition. The silver sunburst dial shows minor spotting and light patina, complementing the overall aesthetic. The hands exhibit visible oxidation, dirt, and degradation, most notably around the center pinion. The original beads of rice bracelet shows normal surface wear and light scratches. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the automatic movement is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 34 mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Seamaster De Ville is a highly authentic example of mid-century Omega design. The presence of the original signed beads of rice bracelet, combined with the honest character of its dial and case, makes it a compelling addition for any enthusiast of classic dress watches.
History
The Omega Seamaster De Ville line emerged in the 1960s as a refined, dressier alternative within the broader Seamaster family. Retaining the practical automatic winding and robust case architecture of the Seamaster, the De Ville models introduced a streamlined aesthetic suited for formal wear. The presence of the 'SWISS MADE T' inscription on the dial denotes the use of tritium for the luminous elements, a standard practice for the era. Today, the Seamaster De Ville is appreciated by collectors as a foundational mid-century dress watch.
